📣 The EITI Board has issued a statement reaffirming that meaningful, representative and independent civil society participation is essential to the credibility and impact of EITI implementation.

According to CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, civic space is closed, repressed or obstructed in 122 countries and territories, including 43 EITI implementing countries. The Board's statement highlights that an enabling environment for is essential to ensuring leads to accountability and effective oversight.

The statement also builds on recent Board discussions to strengthen the mechanisms for monitoring and responding to risks, adding tools to promote dialogue, prevention and early action where challenges emerge.
