The AtoVproject Gaeto is a new type of clocked logic module.

Gaeto is a great module to play around with triggers, gates and legatoes turning one into the other. As a result we decided to name the module Gaeto from “Gate” and “Legato”.

Some of the functions that the module can perform are:

legato generator
trigger to gate converter
time quantizer
sub octave generator with PWM
generative trigger sequence

The Gaeto’s function is to perform the following operation:
“If the signal on the data input has been high, then the output is high at the next clock. If not - the non-output is high.”

In other words, if the signal on the input signal goes over 1V then the memory stores a 1 if not it stores a 0. At the next clock the output will be high if a 1 was stored and the non output will be high if a 0 was stored.

The output is coupled with an AND gate that allows for the outputs to either follow the pulse width of the clock or be maintained high until the next clock. This function is also CV controllable for interesting rhythm modulations.

This rather obscure function allows for an extremely wide range of uses. This is a module that rewards exploration.

Additionally, multiple Gaetos can be chained together using the included cable to create shift register functions.

This design relies on CMOS CD4000 series ICs (4013 and 4081). These were selected for their reliability, high speed and low power consumption.

What a monster. The range of possibilities here is truly outstanding. This thing can literally mutate based on how it’s programmed. It’s wild and often unpredictable. Is it a sequencer? A curve generator? For notes or modulation?
Well, it’s a function generator, an arbitrary one at that, and in practice, it’s more complex than we could’ve imagined.

Ground Control is a 42 hp Eurorack performance sequencer.

The sequencer has 4 tracks: three melodic tracks and a drum track consisting of 8 drum triggers and modulation/accent output. There are also dedicated mute buttons for each track, MIDI and USB-MIDI I/O, external CV and a 2-octave piano-style keyboard.

The keyboard serves for playing the melodies as well as entering the menus – in that method the module eliminates tedious menu diving.

Each track can contain 24 patterns, which can be played separately or chained together in any order. All those tracks are organized into 24 projects. The number 24 is associated to the 24 letters of the Latin alphabet.

Ground Control features very stable internal analog and MIDI clocks preserving low jitter operation, which is crucial for tight sequencing.

There is no typical 808/909-style sequencing. Instead the patterns are entered either in 101-style step input, live recording and can be adjusted using the 303-style editor.
