Today we remember the Nakba 78 years ago, when over 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their homes. We recognize the courage of those facing similar displacement in Gaza and other countries today and the enduring strength of those who had to flee.

Our co-founder Anisa Rabbani is among those affected. Her story and those of other Palestinians who relocated to the Netherlands are featured in the BNNVARA documentary "Palestina bestaat niet" (Palestine Doesn't Exist), directed by Simone Tangelder.

The film portrays their journeys and shows how their deep connection to Palestine continues despite being displaced.

"Do You Speak Arabic?" 🌍

In our latest Informal Dialogue session, we explored the complex question: "Do you speak Arabic?" with our 2025 Scholar Imane Malhouni and Scholarships Programme Coordinator Yasmina Al Ammari.

Our conversation centered around Palestinian-Dutch heritage speakers and how they navigate identity beyond mere proficiency. Imane shared her expertise in multilingualism, explaining how heritage speakers negotiate belonging, identity, and creative expression while embracing the journey of language learning from the earliest stages of cultural connection. 🌟

It was an inspiring afternoon filled with profound insights into how memory, distance, and heritage shape the stories we tell and the ways we create meaning in today's world.
The Informal Dialogue series is our flagship initiative designed to foster open, cross-sectoral conversations on Euro-Arab relations. These authentic, unscripted moments are where the most valuable exchanges happen, bridging understanding across backgrounds and disciplines. ⭐
