My daughter Pietra, who is six years old, has been a victim of bullying at school.

For months, she has been excluded from play by some classmates, targeted with hostile comments, and left out of certain events organized by the mothers of the other kids. When she receives party favors from a birthday celebration, her kit is incomplete or the toy comes broken. The others’ kits don’t.

As a father, it hurts deeply to see your child being treated with discrimination. We’ve done everything within our power: we met with teachers, with the school administration, and even switched schools. Unfortunately, the same episodes happened again at the new school.

Are all children mean at some point in life? When I reflect on my own experience, I remember being bullied many times, but I’m also sure that I was the bully at times. I didn’t have the awareness or maturity to understand that some of my jokes or attitudes might be hurting someone.

But this is not about me — it’s about my daughters. If I can’t control what happens to them, at least I can create a safe, loving environment where they can recharge and know their worth. Where they feel confident sharing their hard days with me.

Maybe one day we’ll all be able to thank those who were cruel to us — in some ways, they have contributed to our emotional and personal growth. Maybe one day we’ll be able to thank our bullies. That’s what I tried to do in my new book: https://amzn.eu/d/3k33Rim

If you want to protect someone, don’t worry — nothing you do will truly work. Instead, love them so much that they never stop loving themselves.

I always tell them they can be whoever they want, follow their dreams, and do what they love. I also remind them that we don’t have to limit ourselves to just one thing in life. I see so many adults frustrated because they didn’t pursue their passions—and I definitely don’t want that for them. 🙏

So, I decided to take my own advice. I took the story they loved the most, wrote it down… and published it! Now, it’s available for kids all around the world. 🌍📚

Am I a writer? Why not? We can do many things—even those we once thought we couldn’t. ✍
