Blossem Breda
A new urban district is taking shape near Breda's city center, on a former factory site. At its core is a residential building with 53 apartments, designed like a modern castle around an open atrium. The exterior facade features a layered design of concrete crosses. The upper floors offer outdoor spaces, and the ground floor has a gallery with multiple entrances. From afar, the facade displays a strict rhythm, and up close, the refined details of the slightly angled concrete elements soften its appearance. From the square, the large opening in the volume can be seen through the facade grid. The layout of the building allows the green, public character of the square to flow into the open atrium in the heart of building and therefore challenges the distinction of what is public, private, and collective.
