Microplastics in fashion&textile. Do we have ways to solve it?
The fashion and textile industry is known for being exceptionally environmentally damaging. It is the second-largest water polluter globally, responsible for 10% of annual CO2 emissions, and relies on many dangerous chemicals, pesticides, and dyes during fabric manufacturing. One equally damaging yet less heavily debated topic is the release of microplastics from clothing. However, its importance cannot be neglected. According to one study, 34.8% of global microplastic pollution comes from washing textiles; it is the world's largest primary source of microplastics.
