🇬🇧 Today, we've got for you a special photo of a Separation Break on downwind, right before landing. If you look closely, you can see Rotterdam The Hague Airport: the runway, the platform, the tower, even taxiway Lima to Vliegclub Rotterdam.

Why do we do this? Well, when approaching the airfield in formation with strong crosswinds, we cannot perform a formation landing. Instead, we have to land individually, one after another.

To create space between the airplanes, we perform a Separation Break. A little bird told us the air traffic controllers don't mind watching either. 🤭

🇳🇱 Vandaag hebben we een bijzondere foto: een Separation Break op downwind, net voordat we gaan landen. Als je goed kijkt zie je het vliegveld liggen: de baan, het platform, de toren, en zelfs taxibaan Lima naar de Vliegclub zijn te zien.

Waarom doen we dit? Nou, als we in formatie komen aanvliegen, maar er staat te veel crosswind, dan kunnen we geen formatielanding maken. We landen dan één voor één.

Om ruimte te creëren tussen de vliegtuigen doen we een Separation Break. Nou schijnt het zo te zijn dat de luchtverkeersleiders het niet zo erg vinden om hier naar te moeten kijken... 🤭

🇬🇧 Sometimes we train without a clear horizon, which is due to the clouds. It’s something everyone does in PPL training too. It’s good practice for the leader to keep situational awareness in less-than-optimal weather too. However, we always keep a close view of the ground. We do fly VFR, after all. 👀

🇳🇱 Soms oefenen we zonder duidelijke horizon, dat komt dan door de wolken. Dat is iets dat je ook al oefent als je je vliegbrevet aan het halen bent. Voor de leader is het goed om te oefenen om ook in minder weer weer te weten waar de formatie is en welk vliegtuig waar vliegt ten opzichte van elk ander. Maar… we houden altijd grondzicht, want we vliegen wel VFR. 👀

🇬🇧 Just in, the formation encountered a bit of a shower this morning. It didn’t withhold them from practicing over Hook of Holland though, and it did create this cool image of the second and third plane taxiing off the runway after landing. 😎

🇳🇱 Net binnen: de formatie is vanochtend een regenbuitje tegengekomen. Dat heeft ze niet weerhouden van lekker oefenen boven Hoek van Holland. En het leverde dit mooie plaatje op van het tweede en derde vliegtuig dat van de baan af taxiede na de landing. 😎
