Multi-Million Dollar Funding for African Agribusinesses.
If you run an agribusiness operation in Africa and need patient debt financing to grow, this one is worth a look.
The Africa Agriculture and Trade Investment Fund (AATIF) provides direct financing to agribusinesses operating across the agricultural value chain in Africa, from input provision and farming through to processing, sales, and trading. It is backed by the German Federal Ministry, the European Commission, and KfW.
What they fund:
Direct investments into cooperatives, commercial farms, and processing companies, as well as indirect investments through large agribusinesses that on-lend or provide services to smallholders and SMEs.
Ticket size: From USD 3.5 million (minimum USD 5 million for most investments)
What they support beyond funding:
AATIF has a dedicated Technical Assistance Facility that provides grant funding to strengthen investees' social and environmental performance and build operational capacity.
Who can apply:
- Agribusinesses already operational (past the planning stage)
- Profitable or EBITDA-positive, or backed by a strong sponsor
- Experienced management team in place
- Equity to total assets ratio above 30% post-investment
- Operating in Africa's agricultural sector
