Wearing 1600 BCE’s finest to celebrate a 2025 milestone ✨ Off to Groningen to watch my friend Bastiaan Steffens open the academic year for the Faculty of Arts — naturally, I had to wear some of his favorite artifact, because that’s just what friends do!

The ‘Fire of change: Bronstijd' exhibition at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden explores the innovations of the Bronze Age kickstarted by the introduction of metallurgy. Over 400 finds are displayed, presenting mighty ritual swords alongside everyday objects such as a 3,500 year old wooden ladder.

Today I took down our Christmas tree, and realized I never shared this amazing ornament gifted to me by a colleague at the 🤩 She made it herself basen on an amazing Bronze Age golden hat currently on display in our exhibition (👉for original).

We decorate our tree with souvenirs and things to reflect experiences, a tradition from my childhood - so this little hat is absolutely perfect to remember the incredible experience of creating the Bronze Age exhibition every time I decorate our tree. Between the Husband and I’s experiences our tree is getting very full of archaeology memento’s 😅

Fun fact: The year I made the Doggerland exhibition my parents, sister and the Husband all gifted me mammoth ornaments for Christmas - so we have three 🦣 in our tree!

Apparently it’s the anniversary of the discovery of one of the very sexy hoards on display at our exhibition on the Bronze Age 🤩

VONDST OP SINTERKLAASDAG | Exact 83 jaar geleden, in de avondschemering van Sinterklaasdag 1941 ontdekten werklieden op een opgraving in Drouwen een bijzondere groep voorwerpen in een greppel rondom een grafheuvel. De vondst bestond uit voorwerpen uit alle windstreken van Europa en zelfs nog verder. De vondsten zie je hier op de foto: onder andere kettingonderdelen, een groot aantal schitterende bronzen armbanden, een brilfibula (soort mantelspeld), een typisch Scandinavisch hangbekken (soort pot) en kralen van git en glas, onder meer uit Egypte. De voorwerpen lijken duizenden jaren geleden opzettelijk op die plek begraven te zijn, maar we weten niet waarom. Bij de vondst werden geen aanwijzingen gevonden voor een graf.

De bijzondere vondst (1200-800 v.Chr.) mogen we speciaal voor onze tentoonstelling ‘Bronstijd – Vuur van verandering’ lenen van het Drents Museum. Kijk voor meer informatie op www.rmo.nl/bronstijd

Another day, another exhibition opening! 🤩

Yesterday we trekked up north to the for the opening of their new permanent exhibition, featuring six archaeological galleries that I worked on as guest curator in 2023-2023. It was intense to be back, as my stint as curator there had coincided with father’s short illness and passing. Yet it was also exhilarating to see everyone’s hard work come together and watch people enjoying the displays and interactive games I helped put together.

I really wish my dad could’ve seen both my exhibitions, as he was so proud of me for achieving my curator-dreams at two great museums ❤️
