Clippy!!

You might’ve noticed a familiar face popping up in profile pictures lately: Clippy, the old Microsoft Office paperclip.

Here’s why it’s become a symbol for anti-Big Tech sentiment:

It started when right-to-repair advocate Louis Rossmann suggested people change their profile pics to Clippy as a form of protest.

Why Clippy? Because it represents a version of tech we’ve lost:

✅ It never tracked your actions to sell your data
✅ It never locked you out of your own tools
✅ It never pushed endless subscriptions

It simply helped… and got out of the way.

Today, much of our tech does the opposite: it collects data without consent, keeps us dependent, and turns features we once owned into “rental” services.

The Clippy movement is a visible way for people to say: “We want tech that works for us, not against us.”

Real change comes when we choose and build services that:

- Respect privacy by design
- Have transparent, sustainable business models
- Give people control over their own data and devices

It’s encouraging to see more people speaking out. The internet doesn’t have to be built on surveillance - it can work for the people who use it.
