🗣 Today we introduce our latest addition to the team, Julian van Toledo, intern within the PITA (Pancreatic Insightful Treatment Analysis) project.

"Hi there, my name is Julian, I’m 22 years old and currently in my last year of the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Master program at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Omnigen has given me an exciting opportunity to work together with the Erasmus MC on validating a technique to improve the performance of machine learning models that can predict the survival of pancreatic cancer patients.

By letting the survival prediction model learn from different cancers I hope to see an overall improvement in performance on predicting survival in pancreatic cancer, and in the end provide a robust method to improve performance for prediction models for many years to come."

🚶 9.8 million to determine optimal physical activity for knee osteoarthritis patients

To more than 750,000 Dutch people who have knee osteoarthritis, the general advice is to stay active. But whether a 30 minute walk is optimal, or perhaps cycling twice a week, remains unclear.

With a budget of 9.8 million the consortium of the LoaD project, including associate professor at Erasmus MC, Marienke van Middelkoop, hopes to be able to personalise this advice.

“Our goal is to determine the optimal physical activity level for individual patients with knee osteoarthritis.”
