NEWS! We zijn blij en trots om te kunnen melden dat de Palestijnse kunstenaar Noor Abed nieuw werk maakt speciaal voor BredaPhoto en Matter of Art.

De video-installatie ‘we walk in our sleep’ wordt voor het eerst getoond in Praag in juni, waarna Abed het werk verder ontwikkelt voor het BredaPhoto Festival in september.

Samen met de gemeenschap in haar directe omgeving - familie, vrienden, buren - verbindt Noor Abed oude tradities met hedendaags leven in Palestina. Via beweging en choreografie verbeeldt ze op poëtische wijze een ruimtelijke en politieke visie op haar thuisland.

Het project komt tot stand in opdracht van BredaPhoto en de Biënnale Matter of Art met steun van het Mondriaan Fonds en de Han Nefkens Foundation.

🇬🇧 We are delighted and proud to announce that Palestinian artist Noor Abed is creating new work especially for BredaPhoto and the Biennale Matter of Art 2026.

The video installation we walk in our sleep will be shown for the first time at the Biennale Matter of Art in the National Gallery Prague in June, after which Abed will develop the work further for the BredaPhoto Festival in September. In this project Noor Abed brings together—alongside her immediate community of family, friends, and neighbors—traditional practices and contemporary life in Palestine. Through movement and choreography, she envisions a poetic spatial and political imagination of her homeland.

The project was co-commissioned by the Biennale Matter of Art and the BredaPhoto Festival and supported by the Mondriaan Fund and the Han Nefkens Foundation.

De vitrines in de hal van station Breda bieden in 2026 een podium voor jong fotografisch talent. Zes recent afgestudeerde kunstenaars krijgen de kans om hun werk te tonen in deze bijzondere projectruimte. We stellen de kunstenaars en de projecten de komende tijd met trots aan je voor.

is een IJslandse fotograaf die woont en werkt in Den Haag. In 2025 behaalde hij zijn Bachelor in fotografie aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunst (KABK) in Den Haag. In Yzta Annesið (Het Verste Noorden) onderzoekt hij zijn band met Melrakkaslétta in het noordoosten van IJsland, een afgelegen gebied aan de rand van de poolcirkel. In een vijfjarig traject verweeft hij folklore, herinneringen en eigen ervaringen met het landschap en de gemeenschap van Raufarhöfn, het geboortedorp van zijn moeder dat kampt met leegloop. Het project reflecteert op afkomst, verlies en terugkeer, en op de verbondenheid tussen landschap en identiteit.

🇬🇧The display cases in the main hall of Breda Station will provide a stage for emerging photographic talent in 2026. Six recently graduated artists are given the opportunity to present their work in this unique project space. We are proud to introduce the artists and their projects to you.

is an Icelandic photographer living and working in The Hague. In Yzta Annesið (The Farthest North), Pálmason explores his personal connection to Melrakkaslétta in northeastern Iceland, a rugged and remote area on the edge of the Arctic Circle. Through a five-year photographic journey, he weaves together local folklore, inherited memories, and direct experiences with the landscape and the community of Raufarhöfn—the village where his mother was born and raised, now threatened by depopulation. The project reflects on heritage, loss, and return, showing how landscape and identity are inextricably linked.

Lindsey Soetodrono is een multidisciplinair kunstenaar/performer en studeerde in 2025 af aan de opleiding Photography, Film & The Digital van St. Joost - School of Art & Design met haar doorlopende project ‘Putune Jaji: Odjo Lali Aku’ (Kleinkinderen van lotgenoten: Vergeet mij niet). In dit project onderzoekt zij haar Javaans-Surinaamse familiegeschiedenis en de gevolgen van intergenerationeel trauma. In haar werk confronteert ze het publiek via multidisciplinaire installaties en performances met de duistere geschiedenis van de Javaanse-Surinaamse contractarbeid.

Lindsey Soetodrono graduated from St. Joost School of Art & Design in Breda in 2025 with her
ongoing project ‘Putune Jaji: Odjo Lali Aku’ (Grandchildren of Kindred Spirits: Forgot Me Not). In this project, Soetodrono explores her Javanese-Surinamese family history and confronts her audience with the dark history of Javanese-Surinamese contract labour through multidisciplinary installations and performances.

Wat een mooie start! Afgelopen donderdag openden we de kunstvitrines op Station Breda. We vierden de prachtige tentoonstellingen van Jón Helgi Pálmason en Lindsey Soetodrono, te zien tot en met 10 mei 2026. 🤍

De vitrines in de hal van het station bieden in 2026 een podium aan jong fotografisch talent. De volgende periode loopt van 21 mei t/m 20 augustus en toont werk van Maria Bodrug en Lana Mojca. Gelijktijdig met de twaalfde editie van het BredaPhoto Festival, die dit jaar van 11 september t/m 25 oktober plaats vindt, zullen Yvela Jessica en Aline Papenheim hun werk in de vitrines presenteren.

What a great start! Last Thursday we opened the display cases at Breda Station. We celebrated the beautiful exhibitions by Jón Helgi Pálmason and Lindsey Soetodrono, on view until 10 May 2026.

The display cases in the station hall will provide a platform for emerging photographic talent throughout 2026. The next period runs from 21 May to 20 August and will present work by Maria Bodrug and Lana Mojca. At the same time as the twelfth edition of the BredaPhoto Festival, taking place this year from 11 September to 25 October, Yvela Jessica and Aline Papenheim will present their work in the display cases.
