This track is everything Johanna ❤️ thanks for letting me get in there and do my thing. And thanks for giving and I the freedom to come in and be a part of it.
I don’t know if I’ve ever been more stoked on a mix — the soaring vocals, drums like a canon, slides, big concert c7, weird synth Carly found with floppy disc….
You’re brilliant JC ❤️

Feels so good to hear Miller’s new songs we cut in Amsterdam (Bad and In Between Days via The Cure) a dreamy little studio called come blaring out of my release radar this past week. It’s as if our quick tour run over to London / Netherlands a few months back has been permanently documented — and I fu***ng love it.
There have been countless times where I’ve found myself on the road with a band (usually my own) and we’re playing the songs slightly differently, as if they’re being “lived in” a bit more — and we’d always talk about tracking them somewhere new, foreign to us, in the moment, before we lose it, and 99% of the time those talks would quickly evaporate due to scheduling, little to no days off, exhaustion, impossible logistics.
So when the boys of Young Gun Silver Fox recommended this little place on our day off, I jumped at it.
No computer, no screens. 16 track 2” Ampex, Trident 80 Series, a few pultecs, a plate reverb in the back, and some nice microphones. It instantly brought me back to my days in Austin, making records in an old dentist office that we converted into a make a shift studio with a 1/2” tape machine, Mackie console, and all the dreamy dreams a 25 yr old could muster. And here I was, 20 yrs later, with Miller and Randal, doing it all over again. It felt pure and raw. It was instantly lived in, and beautiful.
There’s still room to make records like that — tons of room. For every Dua Lipa there’s a St. Vincent. Give me air, sing me once, print the reverb, make mistakes, be yourself— it will bring joy if nothing else.

After working endlessly in the studio, sometimes I forget how much I love to play live — acoustic, electric, solo, band, just give me a stage — and in this case being able to play a stripped down show in London with opening for , that love was easily found again. If you haven’t checked out Miller’s newest record, I think you should. It’s chock full of great songs and hooks, heartbreak and wit — songs that can be played loud or quiet. And that’s something that’s not easy to do.
Cheers from London ❤️
