Vibe coding is changing more than software development. It's changing who gets to build.
Today, AI can generate prototypes, interfaces, integrations, and even entire applications from a simple prompt. The barrier to creating software is falling fast.
As implementation becomes easier, the challenge becomes about:
→ What should be built?
→ Which features create real value?
→ Which customer problem matters most?
We're already seeing this play out across the ecosystem.
AI-native startups are reaching meaningful revenue milestones in record time, while new platforms allow founders, designers, and operators to build products that previously required entire engineering teams.
At GapMinder, we believe the next chapter of software will be defined by who can best direct intelligent systems, combine them with deep domain knowledge, and turn speed into sustainable advantage.
In our latest article, we explore how AI design platforms, vibe coding, and agentic engineering are reshaping product creation, and why the future may belong to software directors rather than software builders.

AI can now generate code, build prototypes, and ship products faster than ever.
But how do you maintain systems that are increasingly built by AI? This is the question we explore in this month's GapMinder VC newsletter.
While "vibe coding" has helped teams move from idea to product in record time, many developers are discovering the limits of prompt-driven development:
→ debugging becomes harder
→ intent gets lost across iterations
→ maintaining consistency becomes difficult
→ small changes create unexpected regressions
As a result, the industry is starting to move beyond code-centric workflows. Instead of treating code as the source of truth, teams define system behavior through specifications, while AI generates and updates the implementation.
This is also one of the reasons why we invested in Codeplain and why we believe spec-driven development could become foundational infrastructure for AI-native software.

Yesterday, we shared that Slovenian AI startup *codeplain joined the GapMinder VC portfolio.
We're backing a shift, not just a company.
AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot and Cursor have made developers faster than ever, with studies showing productivity gains of 50%+ on certain tasks.
But a deeper trend is emerging: while coding is getting faster, maintainability, consistency, and system clarity are becoming harder to sustain. That is driving a shift from code-centric to spec-driven development, where structured specifications, not code, become the source of truth.
*codeplain is building exactly for this future: a platform where developers define system behavior through specifications, and production code is continuously generated and kept in sync with them.
It's a shift from writing code to defining how software should behave.
We believe that's where software development is headed and we're thrilled to back the team building it.

Recently, we shared a practical framework from Nikola Yanev on how founders should think about sizing a funding round. Today, let's look at what it actually means to raise a successful round?
A successful round isn't defined by the size of the check.
It's defined by what that capital helps the company achieve.
Can the company reach meaningful milestones?
Can it build a durable advantage?
Can it grow into an outcome that generates venture-scale returns?
These are some of the questions investors are actually trying to answer. We explore these questions in more detail in our latest article 👉
What Does It Actually Mean to Raise a Successful Round? - Gap Minder Raising money is not just about a pitch deck. Understand customer fit, moats, timing, market size, and founder-market fit before your next round. Founders often measure fundraising success by one number: how much capital was raised. Media headlines are often also framed to focus on that: “Startup ...

Romania’s tech ecosystem keeps raising the bar.
Co-organizing a satellite event at Techsylvania alongside Techcelerator reminded us why. Founders, investors and ecosystem builders came together to tackle the most pressing challenges and opportunities that shape our industry.
"We were glad to reconnect with the vibrant Cluj community and experience the energy that makes the city such an important hub for innovation," says Robert Herscovici, Investmemnt Director GapMinder VC.
We shared valuable conversations and laid the groundwork for collaborations that we look forward to building together.
"The energy was exactly what you would expect from a place where tech meets bussiness: sharp thinking, genuine connections and a community that understands the power of inovating together", says Alexandru Ruff, Partner at GapMinder VC.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. The best outcomes are still ahead.
