Beste Facebook vrienden,

We hebben geweldig nieuws om met jullie te delen! Stichting HIMILO is genomineerd voor de Nationale Vrijwilligersprijzen 2023 en heeft hiermee al €2.000 gewonnen! Uit 346 inzendingen selecteerde een selectiecommissie die van ons, samen met vijf anderen.

Maar dat is niet alles, want stichting HIMILO maakt ook nog eens kans op de hoofdprijs van maar liefst €15.000. Op 16 juni wordt de hoofdprijs uitgereikt in Pathé Buitenhof te Den Haag en we hopen natuurlijk dat wij deze prijs in ontvangst mogen nemen.

We zijn supertrots op al onze vrijwilligers die al ons werk mogelijk maken. Duimen jullie met ons mee op de 16e juni??

On Saturday May 13th Himilo hosted the Men for Gender Equality community event in Amsterdam. Here are some pictures from the day! 📸

The event kicked off with a warm tea and coffee reception and a welcome address from Himilo's chairman Ali Hassan and project leads Abdikarim Mohamud and Zahra Naleie. We were thrilled to see so many familiar faces from the community in attendance, showing their support for gender equality!

The event commenced with a presentation on the Men for Gender Equality project, where we outlined the project's goals and objectives. It was a great opportunity to share what we've been working on and engage with the community.

The presentations were followed by a group discussion with members of the community discussing the importance of engaging men in conversations surrounding gender based violence, FGM, domestic abuse and more.

Change Mediators Kwame and Yousif shared their experiences working on the project and lead a Q&A session answering questions from the audience. Later in the evening the community event concluded with some social mingling and a delicious meal.

Taking informed action to end gender-based violence is paramount. But what are the reasons for inaction? What could you do to prevent GBV?

According to UN Women, 81,000 women and girls were killed in 2021 around the world, an estimated 45,000 of them (56%) died at the hands of an intimate partner or a family member. Femicide is unacceptable!

Cheick rejects excuses for violence against women and support survivors. Violence against women is not due to stress, addiction, mental illness, or how women choose to dress or behave.
