HealthNet TPO

Malaria remains a major health challenge — especially in areas affected by conflict, displacement or limited access to care — but progress is possible when communities are equipped with the tools and training they need.
At HealthNet TPO, we support local health systems to respond effectively. This means working alongside health workers and communities to strengthen prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
In 2024:
– In Afghanistan, over 76,000 people were treated for malaria, and more than 1,900 health workers were trained to prevent, recognise and manage this illness.
– In South Sudan, 138,000 children received care for malaria and other common illnesses through community health workers.

Each year, an estimated 74,000 people in Afghanistan develop tuberculosis (TB). While treatment is free and effective, stigma and lack of access to care prevent many from seeking help.
Nasrat, 20 years old, shares his experience:
“Before I was diagnosed with TB, I was weak and unable to work to earn a living for my family. My relationship with people was cut off because people feared tuberculosis and did not even want to talk to me.”
“When I heard my TB diagnosis, I was very sad. But the doctor told me that TB treatment was free and that if I completed my treatment properly, I would recover quickly. I completed the medicine and now I am healthy.”
HealthNet TPO provides free diagnosis and treatment in Afghanistan and raises awareness to reduce stigma. TB can be treated, and support makes all the difference.
The COVID-19 pandemic has further challenged efforts to achieve a TB-free Afghanistan and reduce deaths by 75% by the end of 2025. Continued investment in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment is crucial.
