What is emotional intelligence?
Broadly speaking, emotional intelligence is a set of skills that enable people to relate better to themselves and others by managing their emotions confidently. The first step in developing emotional intelligence is learning to recognise our emotions and feelings, to understand where they come from, and to be able to manage them.

Emotional intelligence also involves knowing how to relate to others, mainly through empathy. An emotionally intelligent person will not only be able to understand the feelings of others and put themselves in their place, but will also be able to channel all these forces in a positive way.

Throw yourself into love and remember:
Love begins with self-love. My 'I' as a source of personal affirmation and value.
The other person is a source of affirmation and a source of love, but does not complete my 'I'.
Therefore, no one can make me completely happy and no one can make me completely unhappy.
Feeling love is wellbeing, pleasure and psychological health. It is not suffering, nor fear, nor does it determine my personal worth.

Good handling and management of these concepts can position us well when it comes to embarking on the adventure of loving. We will choose to love and be loved, not on the basis of our fears, insecurities or myths of love, but on the basis of our motives, personal values and life goals, making us mutually happy. Or, as we behavioural psychologists say, to be a great source of mutual reinforcement.

Stop depending on others to calm you down or validate you.

There’s virtually nothing more important than to learn how to both self-validate and self-soothe. This is an inside job. If you rely on others to do this confirmation for you, you’ll never live free, always requiring others not only to reassure you but also to "certify" the legitimacy of your viewpoints. To accomplish this vital task, you’ll need to recognize that it’s the insecure child inside you that still doubts itself. But you’re its parent now, so it’s time to learn how to pacify it, get it to settle down, and tell it what it never heard (or was able to take in) from its original caretakers—as in the title of Richard Schwartz’s wondrously enlightening book, You Are the One You’ve Been Waiting For. It’s high time you locate that self-doubting child deep inside you and “rescue” it from itself.
