La Femme Qui Rit

Last week my neighbor came to me. ‘Femke, my wife’s birthday is next week and I want to give her something valuable, can you make something from her father’s miter box? A pen holder or something? It has to be a bit rough, because he was a rough man.’

My neighbor’s father passed away. She couldn’t get rid of this miter box yet. That thing, which some people don’t know what it’s for, was an important item in this man’s toolbox that screamed for a ‘purpose’.

Not too long ago I provided someone’s leather chair (also a chair with emotional value) with a ‘new’ piece of leather. I definitely kept the old separated piece.

What a gift that my neighbor had this assignment, because that harness leather was exactly what I needed. That rough leather embodied exactly what was needed to make the miter box a treasure.
Telling stories, that’s what you do with history.

And that is exactly what La Femme Qui Rit does.
