Barrister, I adopted a child in 1999 and he has been living with me ever since. One man is claiming to be the father and he wants to assume custody of the child. Does he have the right to claim the child? That man needs to understand that adoption is when someone legally assumes the role of a parent for a child, permanently transferring all rights and responsibilities from the child's biological parents. If the adoption was done legally then no Jupiter can take that child from you.

Before you take anyone on bail, make sure the person is tested, trusted and reliable. Otherwise you may just be carrying a cross you know nothing about. Beware.

The Yoruba proverb "Ile ni a nwo ki a to somo loruko" (We look at the home before naming a child) speaks to the idea of considering your situation before making important decisions. When it comes to estate planning, this proverb reminds us that you need to first understand your family, your assets, and your obligations before deciding how to distribute your estate.

Just as no one names a child without looking at the family background, estate planning also requires you to carefully evaluate everything—your properties, your dependents, and what your family will need in the future. This way, your will or estate plan will reflect your true situation and secure your family's future. In short, you have to take a good look at your current life and responsibilities before making decisions about how your wealth will be shared, just like how we consider the home before naming a child.
