ASTAL EMBRACES A COLLABORATIVE LINK WITH TETFUND CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE, UNIVERSITY OF UYO

It is an indisputable fact that no individual or organization can function efficiently and achieve her Mandate while working in isolation. Collaborating with Scientists, Researchers and relevant institutions is one of the primary mechanisms for attaining the Mandate of the Advanced Space Technology Applications Laboratory (ASTAL) Uyo. Several collaborative relationships have been established and successes attained through such partnerships.

The Executive Coordinator Dr. Kenneth Uchua and the entire Member of ASTAL Management committee received a 4-Man Team from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Centre of Excellence, University of Uyo, led by the Centre Director - Dr. Udoinyang G. Inyang, on Monday, 8th August, 2022.

The purpose of the TETFUND visit was to explore possible areas of collaboration with the Space Laboratory with key emphasis on Capacity building/ Training, Research and Innovation.

Other members of the team were Research Officer, TETFUND Centre of Excellence Dr. Mrs IMO J. Eyoh: Head of Department of Computer Science University of Uyo (TETFUND Liaison officer), Dr. Mrs. Udak A. Umoh and the Head of Electrical/Electronics and Computer Engineering, University of Uyo, Dr. Ozuomba Simeon.

The Executive Coordinator while responding to the team affirmed ASTAL's readiness and commitment to collaborate with relevant institutions like the TETFUND Centre of Excellence in the propagation of Space Technology in line with the vision and mandate of the Laboratory.

On the 22/6/2022, the management of the Advanced Space Technology Applications Laboratory (ASTAL ) Uyo ably led by the Executive Coordinator Dr. Kenneth Uchua received in audience a team of scientists and space enthusiasts from the Centre for Atmospheric and Environmental Research (CAER) of the Imo state University Owerri. The visiting team comprised of Prof. Chidozie Chineke who is the Dean Faculty of Sciences Imsu who also double as the coordinator of the Centre for Atmospheric and Environmental Research (CAER) Imsu, Prof. Nwafor Okey Director of ICT Imsu, Dr. Okoro Ogechukwu of the Department of Atmospheric Physics Imsu and Dr. Ejikeme Odibu of the department of pharmacy of the university of Uyo who served as the guide to the visiting team.
The technical visit was informed by the desire of (CAER) IMSU to seek collaboration with ASTAL Uyo in Space-based technologies research and applications for sustainable development.
ASTAL is a Centre of excellence under the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology saddled with the mandate of applying remote sensing and geographic information systems and other related technologies in tackling environmental problems in the Niger Delta region.
