TOPIC: HUNGER FOR DIVINE ENCOUNTER
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
Luke 19:3 (KJV)
“And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.”
INTRODUCTION
Beloved, one of the greatest mysteries in the Kingdom of God is that God responds to hunger. Throughout Scripture, whenever men became desperate for God, heaven responded. Blind Bartimaeus cried out until Jesus stopped. The woman with the issue of blood pressed through the crowd until she touched His garment. The four men carrying the paralytic broke through a roof until they reached Jesus. Heaven has always been attracted to people who refuse to be denied an encounter.
The tragedy of our generation is not the absence of churches, sermons, conferences, or spiritual activities. The tragedy is the absence of genuine hunger. Many people desire blessings but do not desire God. Many seek His hand but not His face. Many want His miracles but have little interest in knowing who He truly is.
Yet there remains a category of people whose souls are not satisfied with religion, status, titles, achievements, wealth, or human approval. Deep within them is a cry that earthly success cannot silence. They are searching for something greater than possessions, something deeper than recognition, and something more valuable than the applause of men. They are searching for God Himself.
This was the condition of Zacchaeus. He was wealthy yet hungry. Influential yet searching. Successful yet unsatisfied. The crowd saw a rich tax collector, but heaven saw a man whose heart was longing for an encounter. What Zacchaeus teaches us is that when hunger becomes greater than pride, greater than obstacles, greater than public opinion, and greater than personal limitations, divine visitation becomes inevitable.
Today we shall discover the mystery of the hunger that attracts divine visitation, the hunger that causes God to stop, the hunger that causes heaven to pay attention, and the hunger that turns an ordinary day into a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ.
Notice that the Scripture does not say Zacchaeus initially wanted a miracle, healing, or financial blessing. It says he sought to see who Jesus was. There was something within him that was searching for more than wealth could provide.
Prophetically, Zacchaeus represents people who have achieved success outwardly but remain empty inwardly. He was a chief tax collector and a wealthy man, yet money could not satisfy the hunger in his soul. His wealth gave him position, but it could not give him peace. His status gave him influence, but it could not give him purpose.
The evidence of his desire is seen in his actions. When the crowd blocked his view, he did not give up.
Some of you have been so discouraged because there are people standing and blocking your view to advance spiritually and in faith. You have given up because the people blocking your way are operating out of jealousy. You have given up because some of the people blocking your view of Christ are the very men and women of God whom you once looked up to. You expected so much from them, but now you are disappointed by their actions, disappointed by what you have heard, and disappointed by what you have seen.
But listen to me, child of God. The Bible says that Zacchaeus sought to see one man, Jesus. His focus was not on the crowd. His focus was not on the people standing in front of him. His focus was not on the opinions of others. His focus was not even on the obstacles. He fixed his eyes on Jesus.
I came to tell you today that it all depends on what you want to see, who you want to see, and how important it is for you to see the one you are seeking. If your eyes are fixed on men, the failures of men will discourage you. If your eyes are fixed on churches, the imperfections of people will disappoint you. But if your eyes are fixed on Christ, no crowd will be able to stop your pursuit.
Luke 19:4 (KJV)
“And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.”
A chief tax collector running through the streets and climbing a tree was unusual and undignified for a man of his position. Yet hunger for an encounter made him forget his reputation. Hunger has a way of making a man forget what people think. When a person becomes desperate for God, pride begins to lose its grip.
The deeper mystery is that while Zacchaeus thought he was looking for Jesus, Jesus was actually looking for Zacchaeus.
Some of you do not realize that Jesus is looking for you. Just as He had need of the c**t, He has need of some of you. You thought you were the one searching for Him, but all along His eyes have been upon you. You thought you were pursuing Him, but He had already marked you for visitation.
This confirms what the Bible says in Ephesians 3:20, that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. Zacchaeus was only expecting to see Jesus from a distance. He never expected Jesus to stop. He never expected Jesus to call his name. He never expected Jesus to enter his house. But God, who sees the secrets of the heart, had already seen his hunger.
This teaches us a powerful mystery: hunger attracts divine attention. There are prayers that move God, there is faith that moves God, but there is also a genuine hunger for His presence that draws His visitation. God is attracted to those who truly desire Him.
Luke 19:5 (KJV)
“And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.”
Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus, but Jesus already knew his name. Zacchaeus was seeking a glimpse of Christ, but Christ was pursuing a relationship with Zacchaeus.
I hear the Lord calling your name. I hear God saying something attached to your name. A blessing attached to your name. A promise attached to your name. A miracle attached to your name. The Lord God is calling you to make haste and come because today your family must experience a turnaround in the name of Jesus Christ.
This teaches us that genuine spiritual hunger attracts divine visitation. When a person becomes desperate to know Christ, barriers become irrelevant. Crowds cannot stop them. Criticism cannot stop them. Position cannot stop them. Pride cannot stop them.
Today I pray for you that God will visit your household in the name of Jesus Christ. May He stop at your address. May He enter your situation. May He step into your family, your ministry, your business, and every area of your life that needs His divine intervention.
The question for the church today is not merely, “Have you seen Jesus?” The deeper question is, “How badly do you want to see Him?” Zacchaeus was willing to leave his comfort zone, humble himself publicly, and climb above the crowd because there was a hunger in him that only Jesus could satisfy.
This means that those who have achieved a higher degree in education cannot be ashamed to do the unusual as long as the hunger is there. Zacchaeus was not an ordinary man. He was a chief tax collector, a wealthy man, a man of influence and social standing. Yet when hunger for Christ entered his heart, he was willing to do what others considered foolish. He ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a sycamore tree just to catch a glimpse of Jesus.
Child of God, if you are still too proud to do something that no one has done in order to see Jesus, you are not ready yet. If your reputation is more important than His presence, if your title is more important than His voice, if your image is more important than your encounter, then the hunger for Christ has not yet reached its full maturity within you.
Today there are many people who say they are followers of Christ, yet publicly they are ashamed to confess Him. Some people can barely move their feet during praise and worship because they feel too loyal to their degree, too loyal to their status, too loyal to their position, and too loyal to what people may think about them. They want Christ, but they want Him without losing their image. They want His power, but they do not want the humility that attracts His presence.
But child of God, go and ask Zacchaeus what it means to be rich and not have Christ. Go and ask him what it means to have influence and still feel empty. Go and ask him what it means to possess wealth yet remain unsatisfied within the soul. Zacchaeus had money, but money could not satisfy him. He had status, but status could not complete him. He had position, but position could not give him peace. There was a hunger within him that only Jesus could satisfy.
Beloved, there is a dimension of God that cannot be accessed by the proud. There is a revelation that only comes to the hungry. The crowd saw Jesus pass by, but Zacchaeus encountered Him. The crowd heard His voice, but Zacchaeus received His visitation. The crowd watched Him from a distance, but Jesus entered the house of Zacchaeus. The crowd returned home with a story, but Zacchaeus returned home with a transformation. The difference was not education, money, position, or status. The difference was hunger.
I came to tell someone today that your next encounter with God may require you to step beyond your comfort zone. It may require you to rise above the opinions of men. It may require you to do what others are unwilling to do. It may require you to worship when others are watching. It may require you to praise when others are criticizing. It may require you to publicly identify with Christ when others are ashamed of Him. The people who receive extraordinary visitations are often those who are willing to pursue God in extraordinary ways.
Prophetically, I declare that God is awakening a fresh hunger within His people. May every spirit of pride, self-consciousness, and fear of public opinion be broken. May every barrier standing between you and your pursuit of Christ be removed. May the hunger that caused Zacchaeus to run and climb a tree come upon you. May your desire for Christ become greater than your desire for acceptance. May your pursuit of His presence become greater than your pursuit of human approval. And may the same Jesus who stopped beneath the sycamore tree stop at your address, visit your house, transform your life, and reveal His glory in your household, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has defended its General Overseer, Enoch Adeboye, against what it described as false narratives, deliberate misrepresentations, and misleading commentaries driven by personal interests and agenda setting.
In a statement issued through its official Public Relations handle on X, The church said (in part), “Pastor Adeboye did not protest against President Jonathan’s Government.
A false narrative has been circulating online, accompanied by a photograph of Pastor E.A. Adeboye holding a placard during a public walk. This is false.
The photograph in question was taken during a peaceful nationwide walk held in response to a directive issued by CAN during the administration of the late President Buhari. Churches across Nigeria were instructed to hold peaceful walks after service, calling attention to the persistent killings of Christians and urging the government to take decisive action to protect lives. It was neither organized against President Jonathan nor connected in any way to his administration.
Despite the media presence at the event when it took place, some of the same photographs have years later been recycled and falsely presented as evidence of a protest against a completely different government.
Yes, Nigeria is facing challenges, and citizens have every right to desire solutions. However, the demand that Pastor Adeboye should “command” the President or the First Lady on how to run the affairs of the nation is unrealistic.
Pastor Adeboye cannot command the President or the First Lady on how to govern Nigeria. Pastor Adeboye and RCCG are not responsible for the current challenges facing the nation. RCCG is not a political party. Pastor Adeboye does not hold political office and was not elected into government. RCCG is not the religious arm of any political party in Nigeria.”
