HAPPY new year from all of us at UDAA Legal Practitioners
26/04/2025
Today, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day with the global theme:
“Music and IP: Feel the Beat of IP.”
In Nigeria, music is more than entertainment — it’s culture, identity, and a booming business. From Afrobeat to street-hop, Nigerian artists are shaping global soundscapes. But behind every beat, lyric, and performance lies intellectual property — the legal heartbeat of the music industry.
Unfortunately, many creators still lose out due to poor contracts, lack of copyright registration, and limited understanding of royalties and licensing.
IP rights are not just for record labels.
They empower artists, producers, songwriters, and even digital content creators to monetize their work, protect their creations, and control their creative destiny.
As we "feel the beat of IP" today, let’s commit to:
Educating creatives about their rights
Strengthening copyright enforcement
Promoting fair use and fair pay
Music moves us. IP protects it.
