Dead Broilers, What's Next?
02/06/2026
A FARMER'S WORST DAY !!!
Imagine walking into your broiler house during the day and seeing a pile of dead birds.
"What happened? How much money have I lost? Can the remaining birds survive?"
Remember, don't panic.
Many of us who keep broilers fear this moment. But when it happens, panic rarely solves the problem.
The first step is to remove the dead birds safely and dispose of them safely to control further disease spread.
Check feed and water sources, observe the remaining birds for unusual signs, improve ventilation, and seek veterinary advice immediately if the deaths continue.
Quick action can sometimes save the rest of the flock.
The truth is that preventing such losses starts long before they happen, through early and proper vaccination, clean water, quality feed, good biosecurity, dry litter, and daily observation of the birds.
Here's a question for fellow farmers: If you walked into your poultry house and found several dead broilers today, what would be the first thing you would check?
Let's learn from each other's experiences because at one time or another, we've experienced situations like this.
