Elohim Development Foundation (EDF), under the platform of Civil Society Organizations, Benue State (CSOB), in partnership with the Benue State Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change and other stakeholders, joined the commemoration of World Environment Day 2026 in Makurdi.

The event, themed "Urbanization and Climate Change: Building Resilient Cities for a Sustainable Future," brought together government agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, and community stakeholders to promote environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

Activities included an environmental awareness walk, technical presentations, symbolic tree planting, and the distribution of seedlings. Discussions highlighted the growing environmental challenges associated with rapid urbanization and the need for climate-smart planning, green infrastructure, environmental education, and collective action to build resilient communities.

The commemoration reaffirmed the shared commitment of stakeholders to advancing sustainable urban development, environmental stewardship, and climate action across Benue State and beyond.

In preparation for this year's planting season on our demonstration farm, we distributed sweet potato slips, plaintain and compost manure to community members and partners as part of activities of our Agriculture Thematic Area.

This initiative is designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices, improve food production, and support households with quality planting materials and organic soil nutrients.

By sharing resources and encouraging local cultivation, we are contributing to stronger livelihoods, improved nutrition, and greater community resilience.
As the rains set in and planting begins, we look forward to seeing these seeds of opportunity grow into abundant harvests.

As Nigeria celebrates Children’s Day today, our hearts are heavy.

At a time when children should feel safe, protected, and hopeful, many are growing up surrounded by fear and uncertainty. The recent wave of kidnappings and insecurity across the country serves as a painful reminder that far too many Nigerian children are being robbed of the peace and innocence they deserve.

No child should have to fear going to school.
No parent should live in terror of not seeing their child return home safely.
No society should become comfortable with the tears and trauma of its youngest generation.

Beyond the celebrations, speeches, and colorful outfits, this day must serve as a challenge to us as a nation. What kind of future are we building if our children cannot sleep peacefully, learn freely, or dream safely?

Even in these difficult times, Nigerian children continue to display resilience, courage, and hope. They deserve more than mere survival; they deserve protection, opportunity, a quality education, and a country that truly prioritizes their well-being.

Children are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are citizens of today, and their safety must never be negotiable.

This Children’s Day, let us move beyond words into action in our homes, communities, institutions, and leadership, to build a Nigeria where every child can live without fear.

Happy Children’s Day to every child in Nigeria. Your lives matter. Your dreams matter. Your future matters.
