Children’s Day in Nigeria (May 27th, 2026). A Message from Sarkin Dawaki Maituta.

Every year, Nigeria joins the world to celebrate Children’s Day on 27th May, a day set aside to honor the hopes, rights, and dreams of children. As we mark this year children day, it is fitting to pause and reflect on the true meaning of this celebration, not only to rejoice, but also to renew our responsibility to protect children, educate them, and give them a future filled with dignity, safety, and opportunity.

I, Dr. Tahir Abdulaziz Ahmad, Sarkin Dawaki Maituta, i want to use this medium to encourage parents, guardians, teachers, youth leaders, faith communities, and all stakeholders to work together for the wellbeing of children across Nigeria.

Children are not just the leaders of tomorrow they are the leaders of today. The way a nation treats its children is a reflection of its values. When children are protected from harm, given access to learning, and supported emotionally, society becomes stronger in the long run.

Children’s Day should not be treated as a one-day event. It should be the spark for year-round investment in children’s wellbeing.
