Energy Commission DG, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Honors EFCC Invitation

The Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has honored an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a petition alleging financial misconduct involving over N500 billion.

Sources familiar with the development disclosed that Dr. Abdullahi willingly presented himself to the anti-graft agency in line with due process and ongoing investigations. Close associates of the ECN boss insist that cooperating with lawful inquiries should not be misrepresented as guilt, stressing that investigations are a normal part of accountability in public service.

Observers have noted that Dr. Abdullahi has increasingly become a prominent figure in Nigeria’s public sector space due to his reforms and activities at the Energy Commission and beyond. As a result, public attention around his office and person has continued to grow, attracting both supporters who commend his work and critics who believe his rising profile has drawn heightened scrutiny.

Stakeholders have therefore appealed to the public to allow the EFCC carry out its constitutional responsibilities professionally and without unnecessary pressure, while avoiding the temptation to rush to judgment before facts are fully established.

There are also growing concerns about sensational reporting surrounding the matter, with media practitioners being urged to avoid misleading headlines designed purely to attract clicks and online engagement. Analysts warn that exaggerated or distorted reports can misinform the public, damage reputations unfairly, and undermine confidence in legitimate investigative processes.

For now, officials close to the matter maintain that the process remains investigative, and that all parties should be granted fairness until the EFCC concludes its work and communicates its findings officially.
