The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, has dismissed circulating claims that the legislature approved a new loan request, describing the reports as inaccurate and misleading.

During Tuesday’s plenary session, he clarified that the House only received and formally read a communication from Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago requesting legislative consideration for a bank guarantee in favour of the United Bank for Africa. The guarantee is tied to a proposed $14.4 million financing arrangement under the Saudi EXIM Line of Financing for the Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics Company.

He stressed that at no point was the request debated or approved by lawmakers, countering narratives being shared across social media and some news platforms.

According to him, the proposal does not amount to the state government taking a loan. Rather, it seeks approval for the government to serve as guarantor for a financing facility obtained by Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics Company, a government-linked entity in which the state holds majority ownership.

He further explained that repayment responsibility rests solely on the company, not the state treasury. The guarantee, he noted, is a standard requirement from the financial institution due to the government’s significant stake in the enterprise.

The Speaker expressed concern over what he described as deliberate misrepresentation of legislative proceedings, emphasizing that Assembly activities are conducted transparently and are open to public scrutiny.

He urged residents to rely on verified and credible information sources, warning against narratives capable of distorting public understanding of government processes.

Reaffirming the Assembly’s stance, he maintained its commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process, adding that any matter requiring formal approval will always be communicated through proper legislative channels.

APC in Gombe state has regretted not giving pantami a ticket for governorship contest

Some APC headlines in Gombe State have said that the party continues to face the effects of not giving Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami a ticket to contest for governorship before 2027 elections, the issue they said has caused division and decreased party power in some parts of the state.

According to them, Pantami is among the most influential political leaders in the state, with being accepted among the youth, teachers and other communities. They claimed that if he was allowed to contest in the rightful election, APC would have more connections and support of its members across the state.

Party officials said Pantami's departure from APC to PDP has changed Gombe's political situation, where thousands of his supporters showed their support. They added that the issue has enabled the opposition parties to further expand their influence in some parts of the state.

Some of the APC members have shown that if elections were conducted fairly and fairly and allowed everyone to test their popularity, the party would not have faced the same challenges now. They call on party leaders to take lessons from what happened in order to ensure fairness, honesty and unity in all future local elections.
