IJELE'S POV

My dog barked and licked the face of the stranger girl who slumped in front of me.

I watched her with an anger boiling within me,she isn't just a changeling but more like the three in one.

A demon,a changeling and a witch. All this points to my destined Rival.

She is all looking helpless and innocent until I let

"Let's go guard, she don't deserved to be saved"I said stiffly and turned to walk away.

Guard barked out loudly this time then his ear became droopy, he made some sad noises and stayed by her side.

That is new,Dogs are meant to be spirit animals, why isn't he aggressive towards this witch? He is not like that to the others.
I took a deep breathe and glanced at the face of the maiden again,I would be in trouble for doing this but...

I carried her in my arms and walked towards the road that leads to the village priestess shrine.
An hour later she was finally done with her spells and incantations.

"How is she doing?"I asked curiously.
The priestess opened her eyes, she took a spirit clay and made a mark on the maiden's body then suddenly gasped loudly.

"She's a ...”

"Changeling,a witch?"I cuts in.

Her eyes grew bigger in bewilderment.

"Do you know at first?"she asked with arched brows, making her old face wrinkler.

"Yes,I am the protector, and I can sense demons"I said slowly.

"And you saved her!! You are the spirit guardian Ijele!!".

"I know,I do know but isn't my job to protect the villagers and she is one of them and by the way she is totally harmless now, isn't she?"I replied my hands spread out.

"Never in all my years,I won't let her go,this is unacceptable, she is a witch!!,a threat to the villagers! and you.....you are their Guardian spirit which means you are doing the exact opposite of what you are meant to do,are you trying to defile the will of the gods?"she bellowed in fierce anger.

I sighed deeply here we go again.

"I would never, please just let the maiden live, when she's evil to deserve death,I promise ...I won't hold back,I will be a Guardian to the villagers"I stated with finality.

She was silent for a while, battling within herself on her final decision, while glaring angrily at me.

"Your fate is to kill the Changeling, anything contrary will put you in danger, will put our world in danger,I won't let that happen"she countered.

"But..”

"Forget it,i will keep this witch in my custody till the night of the black moon".

I have to try harder to convince her,I went on my knees and held her leg.

"Mama..I am your favourite great grand son ain't I? please for my sake let her live ,she is not a threat to us yet, please mama Ari"I tried winning her over.

I never felt this determined before.......a Changeling huh? she maybe evil but I don't think ,she deserved death untill she gives me a reason to think otherwise,it is my fate to wipe out all her kinds from the earth surface and i won't hold back.

The priestess sighed.
"Fine, I will heal her but becareful Ijele ,since you are not in full posession of your powers, she can be dangerous very dangerous and deceitful that's one of their qualities, the process very strong seductive powers too, don't ever take your protector necklace oft"she warned.

I touched the necklace on my chest absentmindedly then I laughed nervously.

"Don't worry mama Ari,I won't take it off ever".

"This will heal her"she said rubbing the maiden's face with a coloured thick substance.

The maiden sneezed twice and moved her legs,I was so happy.

"Thank you so much mama Ari,I will just take her home, back to her people and that's it".

"Well you better mean that, becaredul further meetings with her will definitely be your worst night mare"she warned.

I carried the maiden in my arms heading to her place, with my Guardian power i could tell where she lives.

Getting to the front of their hut,she coughed and wrapped her hands around my neck, cuddling up,then i felt dizzy all of a sudden.

Her mother who was styling the hair of her younger daughter sighted us from afar.

"Onwamma"she yelled out on top of her voice and ran towards us.

She got to where i stood and carried the maiden gently from me.

"Thank you"she muttered sincerely
I smiled back, rubbing my painful neck, the pain was sharp and severe.

I watched as they laid her down on a mat then her mother started sobbing,my eyes went back to the demon lady,I watched her closely.

"At full dark moon coming soon,i am going to wipe you and the likes of you out from our world, you don't belong here"I said to her in my mind then I felt the sharp pain on my neck worsen.

She must have planted a protection spell in her hand, that's why it hurts after she held my neck. I should have listened to my grand mother and stay away from this witch ,I am not in pocession of full powers yet ,so this is very risky, what if she already acquired her full powers,I can't win like this,i've never been this close to a Changeling .......i suddenly felt light headed and I blacked out.

***ONWANMA'S POV***
When I woke up ,my head was aching with a hammering sensation in my head,I heard a dog panting. My eyelids open slowly to the blurry vision of the human figures Infront of me.

"Are you okay? Someone brought you home, here drink this"

I looked up and found my mother and younger sister Nilu ,sitting beside me.
Still holding my head,i sat up my mother handed me the cup of water unaware it was not just water but medicine.

As soon I put the cup on my mouth to drink my mouth knowing how bad I was in taking medicines she pinched my nose close so I could swallow the horrible drink.
As soon as it was forced down my throat, she left go of my nose,i spat out many times.

"That is a bitter medicine mother!"

"You should see your face,ha ha".
My younger sister Nilu snapped out, mother nudged her so she kept shut.

"Stop with the face already,It is not that bitter you know and it does have a sweet aftertaste ,be a big girl and swallow it up"Mother said to me as I gave her back the emptied cup.

"This medicine is really terrible, please mother don't give me such again and now I'm feeling nauseous".
I said spitting out more saliva.

She shook her head in disappointment.

"Nilu.."

"Mama"

"Go inside the hut under your father's bed you will see a bowl of honey".

"Honey!"I and Nilu exclaimed in delight.

"We are stealing it so you better don't speak of this to anyone, your brother Okezie brought home yesterday and hit it there i only found out about it this morning when I was clearing your father's room,it can help terminate the bitter taste"Mother instructed Nilu.

I loved the idea.

"Mama I want some too".

"Just go get it before, your brother comes back and claim it back"mother replied.

"Here take the cup too".

Nilu collected the cup and went inside the hut to get the honey.

"But why will Okezie hide the honey in father's room?"I asked mother.

"My dear he trust your father with his honey more than us,and he is also at an advantage because your father hates sugary foods".

"I wonder if father is aware of this?"I said rubbing my chin thoughtfully.

"Maybe"mother replied with a shrug.

My eyes went to the dog and a stranger lying on a mat,at the other side of the hut.

The dog barked and wagged his tail continuously that was when I remembered about the stranger I met on the way and blacked out,it is not the first time,I had such an experience, it is normal for changelings but the feeling was a different kind.

"He is a good youngman, he brought you home but I don't know what is wrong with him,he collapsed as soon as i carried you from his arms".Written by Authoress Caroluchy

THE OLD MAN CLAIMS THEIR ONE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS HIS WIFE🤔🔥

“Iya Fẹ́mí! Are you at home?”

Mama Ronke, Femi's mother, stepped out, her old eyes squinting.

“Who is it?”

The girls knelt respectfully.

“Good morning, ma.”

“Welcome, my dear. What brings you to my house this morning?”

Mama Ronke asked with a smile.

The younger woman smiled shyly while the older one began to speak.

“Iya Fẹ́mí… you said you were looking for a bride for your son, so I brought my sister to greet you… you know, to show face. She and I are from the neighboring village. I got married from this village, and my sister is also interested in getting married from here.”

Her sister nodded, smiling shyly.

Mama Ronke’s eyes lit up.

“Ehn ehn, is that so? You did good and your sister is so pretty. Please have a seat. I will go inside and call my son.”

"Thank you".
The girls sat on the mat, adjusting their wrappers and beads.

“Is Fẹ́mí really handsome?” the younger girl whispered, leaning toward her sister.

Her sister smirked.

“He is. Even though he’s… aged.”

“Aged? How old is he?”

“He is over sixty years.”

“Ah, sister, that is not good oo.”

“But their family? Known for ọgbọ́n and healing knowledge, bone-setters, even palace attendants. If you marry into this house, you will not suffer. At least you will be respected.”

The younger girl’s eyes brightened.

“Ah, that is interesting.”

A few minutes later, they heard tok… tok… tok…

Mama Ronke’s walking stick.

The younger girl quickly sat upright, adjusted her wrapper firmly around her bust, and licked her lips—ready to meet the son.

But when she looked up, it was just Mama Ronke returning.

She just sighed heavily and shook her head.

Just then heavy footsteps sounded.

Fẹ́mí emerged from the back, carrying huge tubers of yam across his shoulders. His muscles strained under the weight; sweat glistened in the sun.

Both girls stared in admiration.

His grey hair seemed invisible to them now. Even at his age, Femi was considered one of the good-looking grey-haired men in their land.

Mama Ronke lifted her stick dramatically.

“Look at him! A man as strong as a mountain! And he still refuses to find a wife!”

She pointed the stick toward the younger girl.

“See how beautiful this maiden is! And you are still behaving as if marriage is a death sentence. Your mates already have children and grandchildren! Or do you want me to die before you marry?”

The young girl knelt down and greeted Femi softly with a shy smile.

“Good morning, Femi. I am Bisola my sister told me so much about you.”

Fẹ́mí bowed politely.

“Welcome.”

He turned to his mother.

“Mama, please, I have somewhere to go,” he said, and started walking away, leaving the girl still kneeling down and elder sister speechless.

“Femi! Femi!” Mama Ronke shouted after him.

“Look at a beautiful maiden that came for you, and you are still acting uninterested? At your old age! I hope wherever you are going with those tubers of yam, you will bring home a bride—else you will kill me this night!”

Fẹ́mí didn't look back he walked straight to his destination, ignoring the curious stares of the villagers.

They whispered and pointed as always gossiping about the old bachelor who had no interest in women.

As he finally approached the hut, he suddenly heard a sharp, persistent cries of a newborn.

“Who is at home?” he called but there was no answer.

He moved around to the backyard and saw a village herbalist bending over the baby, carefully applying some kind of paste at her waist region where the bite mark was.

“She has been crying non-stop since last night, please do everything possible to help us,” mother sobbed.

“She cries too much because of this birthmark, evil spirit are after your child's life”.
The herbalist said.

Fẹ́mí widened his eyes and without warning, he rushed and snatched the baby into his arms.

The parents and the berbalist were shocked because they didn't even realize he was there.

“Hey, you old man! Give her back!” the father shouted, stepping forward aggressively.

But the wife quickly grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

“Ẹ jọ̀ọ́, ẹyà mi…(Please, my love…)Do not fight him. Please, he is old.”

The husband clenched his fists angrily still boiling with anger.

Fẹ́mí held the baby closer. And surprisingly the baby's cries softened, then ceased immediately.

Her tiny chest rose and fell against his own. She was sleeping like a baby for the first time ever.

The mother’s widned eyes were filled with tears of belief.

“Look, our daughter… she’s not crying anymore.”.

The husband was shocked.

“What did you do to our daughter?”

The herbalist doesn't seem pleased by the act.
