EKWURE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION URGES CALM AND PEACEFUL RESOLUTION IN ADIKO–ITO AND AGBADICHU AINU-ETE CRISIS
The Ekwure Development Association stands with the good people of Igede in condemning the ongoing conflict between the Adiko community in Ito, Obi Local Government Area and the Agbadichu Ainu-Ete community of Oju Local Government Area, both in Benue State.
As an association dedicated to unity, harmony, and community advancement, we are greatly disturbed by the turn of events, which has led to violence. It is unfortunate that communities bound by shared history, culture, and economic relationships are now engaged in actions that endanger their collective peace and future.
We strongly denounce the destruction of properties, especially residential homes and sources of livelihood. These actions only worsen hardship, force families out of their homes, and slow down development. We therefore call on all concerned parties to immediately put an end to violence and any form of aggression.
We firmly believe that dialogue and mutual understanding remain the most effective and dignified ways to resolve disputes. We urge all stakeholders to embrace peaceful discussions, tolerance, and respect for human life and property.
Furthermore, the Ekwure Development Association calls on relevant authorities—including political office holders, the Representative of Oju/Obi Federal Constituency, members of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Oju and Obi, Local Government Chairmen, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the Benue State Government—to act swiftly in restoring peace and facilitating a lasting solution.
At this crucial time, we must not forget that our strength lies in unity and brotherhood. We must preserve and protect the legacy handed down by our forebears. Let us choose peace, rebuild broken trust, and work together for the progress and development of Igede land.
We earnestly look forward to a time when we will celebrate peace and reconciliation rather than speak against conflict and destruction.
