Apple just announced its biggest leadership change in over a decade.

Tim Cook is stepping down as CEO on September 1. John Ternus, Apple’s hardware engineering VP is taking over.

Here’s why this matters:
Ternus isn’t a software guy. He’s the person behind the iPhone, iPad, AirPods, and Apple Watch hardware. Giving him the top job is Apple essentially saying: the next era of tech is about the device, not the model.

While Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon are spending billions chasing the best AI model, Apple is betting that whoever owns the best hardware wins in the end.

80% of Apple’s $143.8B revenue already comes from hardware. That number tells you everything about the direction.
Whether that’s the right call in an AI-first world? That’s the real question.
