In a conversation with a Senior Technical Sales Executive with over 15 years of experience, who is considering moving into new terrains, he is one person I respect, and we were talking about the politics that run within the organisation, which certainly has its advantage if understood and played well. In that conversation, many things seem to thrive in some quarters because of the mindset of the people in the place of leadership, which oftentimes distort growth and development.

This conversation is what influences what I am sharing with us, occupying the seat of decision-making and management.

This post is about: The Relevance of Experience and Expertise and How they Over-rule Your History of Relationship with Talents when Hiring.

Experience and expertise are crucial factors to consider when hiring talent. In today's global business landscape, organisations need a solid and competent workforce to remain competitive. According to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), "the most important factor in hiring is the candidate's experience and expertise in the specific job or industry."

While a history of relationship with a candidate may be a positive factor, it should not override the importance of experience and expertise. A candidate's past performance and knowledge of the industry or job are more reliable indicators of their potential success.

Additionally, a report by the World Economic Forum found that "80% of business leaders believe that the most important factor in attracting and retaining top talent is providing opportunities for growth and development." This highlights the importance of investing in the skills and capabilities of employees rather than simply relying on personal relationships.

Overall, experience and expertise should be prioritised in the hiring process to ensure that an organisation has the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in today's global market.
