Curating the +234 Art Fair Gift Shop. Year 3.
For the third year running, Iro Lagos was invited to curate the gift shop for the +234 Art Fair.
This year’s theme is Inclusivity.
Our interpretation was to explore inclusivity through symbols, a visual language that has long carried stories, values and philosophy across African cultures.
In collaboration with Africa’s Design Stories, we translated these ideas into objects for everyday living including lampshades, cushions, jewellery and handcrafted pieces.
At the heart of the curation are four symbols representing enduring virtues.
Nkyinkyim. Resilience
Umoja. Unity
Fawohodie. Freedom and independence
Akoko Nan. Nurturing, protection and responsibility
Each piece in the space carries one of these ideas, quietly woven, carved or printed into form.
Because inclusivity is not only about who is present in the room.
It is also about the stories, symbols and values we choose to carry forward.

FAWOHODIE — Return to Earth.
A sculpted geo armchair clad in woven African cloths:
Kente, Fugu, Kanuri.
Different origins. One language of freedom.
A quiet fire, held in form — crimson woven with patience and power. Where heritage glows softly, and every step carries intention.
