CHAPTER 15&16
Moving into Selene and Isla’s place didn’t feel real.
The room was bigger than the café Liana’s mother worked in. Soft carpet. Glass windows. A bed that didn’t creak when she sat.
She should’ve felt lucky.
Instead… she felt restless.
That night, while Selene and Isla argued about movies, Liana sat on the edge of her bed, staring at her phone screen.
Her mom’s message was simple.
“Don’t worry about us. Just focus on school.”
Which meant things were tight again.
She swallowed.
The next afternoon, she slipped out after class, walking past the fancy cafés students visited for fun — and into the small bakery just outside campus gates.
The owner looked surprised. “You want a job?”
“Yes, ma.”
By the time she returned that evening, flour dusted her sleeve and her legs ached.
Selene noticed first. “Where were you?”
“Library,” Liana said automatically
Isla tilted her head. “With flour on your shirt?”
Liana froze.
Selene’s eyes softened. “You’re working.”
“It’s nothing,” Liana said quickly. “Just a small bakery. I can handle it.”
“You don’t need to,” Isla said. “We can—”
“No.” It came out sharper than she meant. She lowered her voice. “I appreciate you. I really do. But I have to do this myself.”
Silence stretched.
Then Selene smiled gently. “Okay. But we’re still walking you home after shifts.”
Isla nodded. “And bringing snacks.”
Liana laughed, eyes stinging unexpectedly. “Deal.”
Across campus, Asher watched from his car as she exited the bakery later that week.
Apron in hand.
Tired.
But smiling to herself.
He frowned slightly.
She lived in a mansion now.
Sat with the top girls.
Yet she was still working?
Julian noticed his stare. “That your type now? Hardworking and stubborn?”
Asher didn’t answer.
But something in his chest tightened.
And he didn’t like that at all.
Back at school, Mia heard about the job too.
“She’s really playing the humble card,” she muttered.
But beneath the irritation was something else.
Unease.
Because girls like Liana?
They didn’t just enter worlds like Evercrest.
They changed them.
The evening air smelled like sugar and warm bread.
Liana stepped out of the bakery, tying her hair back, exhaustion clinging to her shoulders. Her shift had run late, and the street outside campus was quieter than usual.
She didn’t notice the black car parked across the road.
But she noticed the figure leaning against it.
Her steps slowed.
Asher.
Of course her heart decided to forget how to behave now.
He straightened when he saw her looking. Not surprised. Like he had been waiting.
“You work here,” he said, not a question.
Liana held her apron tighter. “Sometimes.”
His eyes dropped to the flour on her sleeve, then back to her face. Something unreadable passed through his expression. Not pity.
Definitely not amusement.
“You don’t have to,” he said.
“I know.”
Silence stretched, but it wasn’t awkward. Just… aware.
“You live in Selene’s place now,” he added.
She nodded. “Yeah.”
Another pause.
Then, unexpectedly: “Give me your number.”
Her brain stopped.
“My— what?”
“Your number,” he repeated calmly, like this was normal. “So if you walk back late like this again, you tell me.”
“Why?” she asked before she could stop herself.
His jaw shifted slightly. “Because Evercrest isn’t as safe as it looks.”
That wasn’t flirting.
That was… serious.
“I can handle myself,” she said softly.
“I know,” he replied. “Still.”
Her fingers tightened around her phone.
Slowly, she handed it to him.
Their hands brushed.
It wasn’t dramatic.
But it wasn’t nothing.
He typed his number too before giving it back. “We’re friends,” he said simply. “That’s all.”
Friends.
The word felt bigger than it should.
“Okay,” she murmured.
A car passed. The moment thinned.
“I should go,” she said.
He nodded. But his eyes followed her as she walked away.
And for the first time in a long while…
Asher didn’t feel in control of something.
From her room window later that night, Liana stared at the new contact on her screen.
Asher V.
She told herself it didn’t mean anything.
But her heart didn’t listen.
Across campus, Mia saw Asher’s car pulling in late.
And she knew.
Something was changing.

CHAPTER 13&14
The hallway felt longer than usual.
Liana didn’t know why her chest felt tight just walking past people who weren’t even looking at her. Maybe it was the whispers. Maybe it was the way Evercrest made everything feel like a stage.
She adjusted her bag strap, telling herself to breathe.
She didn’t see Mia standing by the lockers until it was too late.
“Well… look who upgraded,” Mia said softly, eyes sliding toward Selene and Isla walking a few steps ahead.
Liana stopped. “I didn’t—”
“You didn’t mean to?” Mia smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “You’re fitting in fast.”
Something about that tone made Liana’s stomach twist. “I just needed friends.”
Mia’s gaze flicked past her.
And Liana felt it before she turned.
Asher.
Walking down the corridor with Julian, hands in his pockets, expression unreadable as always. But his eyes lifted for half a second.
Just half.
But it was enough.
Mia saw it too.
Her fingers tightened around her books.
Liana looked away first, heart beating too fast for something that didn’t even count as a moment.
Why did it feel like one?
Julian leaned toward Asher, saying something that made him smirk slightly. But Asher’s gaze drifted back again — quick, almost like he didn’t mean to.
He didn’t like that.
Didn’t like noticing her.
Didn’t like the way she looked small in this school but still stood straight like she refused to bend.
It was irritating.
And interesting.
Evan’s voice suddenly echoed from the stairwell. “Yo, hero! No pools today?”
Laughter broke the tension, but Asher didn’t laugh.
His eyes stayed on Liana for one more second before he walked past.
Mia watched the whole thing.
And for the first time, her smile disappeared completely.
LATER ..
Gym class was chaos.
Whistles. Sneakers squeaking. Girls complaining about sweat like it was a crime.
Liana stood awkwardly near the back, unsure where to go, when a ball rolled to her feet.
“Pass!” Isla called.
Liana kicked it toward her, surprised when Selene jogged over, breathless but smiling.
“You’re actually good,” she said. “Most people freeze their first week.”
“I grew up running around a café all day,” Liana laughed softly. “Dodging trays is training.”
Isla grinned. “See? Survival skills.”
The three of them ended up on the same team. Somewhere between missed shots and dramatic falls, Liana forgot she was supposed to feel out of place.
She laughed.
And for once, it wasn’t forced.
From the bleachers, a few students watched. Whispered. The scholarship girl with Selene and Isla? That wasn’t small news.
After class, Isla tossed her a water bottle. “You’re coming with us this weekend.”
“Where?” Liana asked.
Selene smiled. “Home.”
Their “home” wasn’t a house.
It was a mansion.
Glass walls, tall gates, fountains that looked like something from a movie. Liana stood frozen at the entrance, feeling like she might dirty the air just by breathing.
“Relax,” Isla nudged her. “You belong where we are.”
And somehow… Liana believed her.
They spent the evening on Selene’s bedroom floor, shoes off, hair loose, talking about everything except school.
Childhood stories. Embarrassing crushes. Dreams.
It felt warm.
Safe.
Real.
Later that night, Selene leaned back on her pillows. “You shouldn’t stay in that dorm.”
Isla nodded. “Too many politics. Too many eyes.”
Liana blinked. “Where would I go?”
Selene and Isla shared a look.
Then smiled.
Monday morning, the principal looked tired.
“Move dorms?” he repeated.
Selene spoke calmly. Isla added influence. Their last names carried weight here.
Liana sat quietly, heart racing.
After a long pause, the principal sighed. “Fine. But no trouble.”
Selene squeezed Liana’s hand under the desk.
Isla grinned.
And just like that…
The scholarship girl moved one step closer to the top of Evercrest’s food chain.
Across campus, Mia heard the news.
And dropped her phone.

CHAPTER 11&12
The party had ended hours ago, but the tension lingered in Liana Hart’s chest like a second heartbeat.
She didn’t look for Mia when she returned to the dorm. She didn’t need to.
Mia’s smirk, her sweet words hiding sharp edges, had crossed a line tonight. The push into the pool wasn’t a joke. It was a warning.
By the time Liana packed her bag for bed, her decision was made.
She wouldn’t be friends with Mia anymore.
Not today.
Not tomorrow.
Not ever.
Later that night, she walked the quiet dorm hallways, trying to think, trying to calm her racing thoughts. The moonlight spilled across the courtyard, silver and soft, masking the chaos of the day.
A shadow moved near the fountain. A figure she knew all too well.
“Asher?” Her voice was careful, cautious.
He stepped forward, tall and composed, blazer hanging just right, dark eyes unreadable.
“You’re wandering alone,” he said, tone neutral. But the faint edge of amusement lingered.
“I… needed air,” she admitted.
He didn’t move closer, but the presence was overwhelming. “About the pool…”
Her cheeks warmed. “I know you were just… being yourself.”
He tilted his head, one eyebrow raised. “Being myself doesn’t require excuses. Are you okay?”
She studied him for a long moment, noticing the way his jaw flexed, the rare softness hidden beneath that cold mask. “I am now. Thank you… for saving me.”
A pause. Then, unexpectedly, he said quietly,
“Don’t thank me. Next time, watch where you step. And who you trust.”
It wasn’t a warning. Not exactly. It was… concern. Controlled. Dangerous. And for some reason, Liana found herself wanting to meet that danger halfway.
The next day, Selene and Isla approached her during lunch.
“Sit with us,” Selene said, voice firm but kind.
Isla nodded. “You don’t need to be alone. Especially after… last night.”
Liana hesitated, then accepted. As she sat down, whispers rippled across the cafeteria. Eyes flicked toward her. Some curious. Some judgmental. Some clearly impressed.
And there, across the room, Evan leaned back in his chair, smirk spreading.
“So,” he called loudly, “Asher saves the scholarship girl from the pool… Didn’t know he had a soft side.”
Laughter erupted. Asher’s gaze flicked toward Evan, sharp, dangerous, almost daring him to continue. Liana felt herself shrink under the weight of eyes and whispers, but also a spark of something else — a sense that she belonged here now, if only a little.
Selene and Isla exchanged a glance with her. “Ignore them,” Isla murmured. “We’ve got your back.”
For the first time since arriving at Evercrest, Liana felt a little less like an outsider.
And a lot more like the battlefield was hers to navigate.
The cafeteria felt different today.
Not quieter. Not louder. Just… heavier.
Liana could feel the whispers before she even sat down beside Selene and Isla. Eyes followed her — some curious, some impressed, some calculating. Evercrest didn’t forget scenes like last night’s pool incident.
She focused on her tray, pretending not to notice.
“You’ll get used to it,” Selene said calmly.
Isla leaned closer. “Fame here spreads faster than gossip.”
Liana gave a small smile, but her chest felt tight. She didn’t ask for attention. She didn’t ask for Asher to save her. But somehow, she had stepped into the spotlight — and Evercrest never let anyone leave it easily.
And across the cafeteria…
She felt it.
His presence.
She didn’t look.
But she knew.
Asher....
He shouldn’t have looked.
Yet his eyes moved on their own.
There she was — sitting with Selene and Isla now. Not hiding. Not shrinking. Not trying to impress anyone.
Just existing.
It irritated him.
Not her.
The fact that he noticed.
Evan dropped into the seat beside him, grinning. “So… pool hero now?”
Julian chuckled. “You did move fast.”
Asher’s jaw tightened. “She was pushed.”
Evan raised an eyebrow. “Still. You don’t dive for just anyone.”
Asher didn’t answer. Because the truth annoyed him more than Evan ever could.
He didn’t know why he had moved.
He just had.
From the far end of the room, Mia watched.
Selene. Isla. Liana.
Her nails pressed into her palm.
So this is how it is now?
First the pool.
Then Asher stepping in.
Now she’s sitting with them?
Mia’s smile returned — soft, harmless-looking.
But inside, something twisted.
She didn’t hate Liana.
Not yet.
But she hated how easily the girl was slipping into spaces that took others years to enter.
And worst of all…
She hated that Asher had noticed.
Liana finally dared to glance up.
Just once.
Her eyes collided with Asher’s across the room.
Time didn’t stop.
But something inside her did.
His expression didn’t change.
But she felt it — the awareness. The quiet understanding. The unspoken tension.
Then he looked away first.
And somehow…
That felt worse.
The bell rang.
Chairs scraped.
Voices rose.
But the invisible threads between them remained.
Tightening.

CHAPTER 9&10
Monday had already tested Liana’s nerves, but Tuesday promised more.
She stepped into the classroom, her bag tight against her chest. Desks gleamed, uniforms crisp, and students whispered as she passed. Some glanced with curiosity. Some with thinly veiled judgment. She felt every eye, every unspoken thought pressing down.
Mia slid in next to her, smirking slightly. “Remember what I said. Watch. Learn. Survive.”.
Liana nodded, forcing herself to sit tall.
The teacher entered, and the room settled—almost.
Almost.
Evan strode in a few minutes late, as if the world itself had waited for him. Heads turned. Whispers rolled.
“Late again?” the teacher asked, voice sharp.
Evan grinned, carefree. “I like to make an entrance.”
Liana’s stomach sank. She didn’t like this. Not one bit.
He sauntered past her desk, nudging a classmate’s notebook with his elbow. “Oops. Sorry,” he said, not looking up. The room laughed nervously, but Liana felt a prickling in the air. This wasn’t just mischief. This was territory being claimed.
Mia leaned closer. “Ignore him. He likes chaos. Likes people reacting.”
Liana tried, but every move Evan made drew her eyes. He laughed, tossed another paper, and all the while, the richer students seemed to watch with quiet amusement, as if the entire courtyard and classroom were their stage.
And somewhere in the periphery of her vision… Asher.
He wasn’t looking at her. Not yet. But the aura around him made her heart skip. Julian’s lighter presence beside him made the tension even sharper. Liana couldn’t help but notice the effortless way they moved, the quiet authority Asher radiated even without saying a word.
After class, whispers followed her down the hallway.
“Scholarship girl in the same class as Evan?”
“She’s lucky Asher doesn’t notice… yet.”
“Did you see Mia glaring at her in the cafeteria?”
Liana exhaled. Her cheeks warmed.
Evercrest wasn’t just a school. It was a battlefield of glances, whispers, and carefully measured words.
By the time she reached her dorm, her head spun..
Mia was waiting, arms crossed. “Remember, sweetie. Keep your eyes open. Some people smile at you while sharpening their knives.”
Liana didn’t know whether to be scared or impressed.
She settled onto her bed, opening her notebook, trying to ignore the feeling that the entire school was watching her every move.
And maybe… it was.
It was Friday, and the dorm buzzed with excitement.
Liana Hart had just finished her last class of the week when Mia appeared at her door, a mischievous grin on her face.
“Hey, scholarship girl,” Mia said casually, tossing her bag onto her bed. “You’re coming to a little gathering tonight. It’s… important.”
“Important?” Liana asked cautiously.
Mia smirked. “It’s where you meet the real Evercrest Academy. Don’t worry—you might actually survive it if you stick with me.”
Liana hesitated, but curiosity won. She agreed.
The party was in one of the richest girls’ dorm lounges, all glass and shimmering lights.
Students in designer clothes laughed and clinked glasses of sparkling juice. Liana felt out of place immediately, her modest outfit drawing a few curious glances.
“Relax,” Mia whispered. “Stick with me.”
She did. At first.
Then the group gravitated toward the pool in the center of the room. Music pulsed through the night air. Laughter echoed.
And then… it happened.
Mia, smiling sweetly, suddenly gave Liana a firm push.
“Woah!” Liana cried as she splashed into the cold water, gasping.
The crowd froze.
From the edge of the pool, a tall figure moved with impossible speed. Asher.
Without hesitation, he reached the water, pulling Liana up with one arm, his grip firm, controlled, unyielding. Her chest heaved as she tried to catch her breath, water dripping from her hair.
“You’re… careful,” she managed, still catching herself.
“I said watch where you stand,” Asher replied, voice low, almost dangerous. Not angry, but… commanding.
Julian and the two other girls, Isla and Selene, stepped in as well, pulling her towel around her shoulders and muttering words of comfort.
Mia’s smile faltered, replaced by a flicker of irritation as she realized the spectacle had backfired. Liana’s embarrassment wasn’t humiliating—it had put her in the spotlight, and Asher had made sure she wasn’t left there alone.
Liana’s heart raced for more than just the cold water.
The air between her and Asher crackled. Recognition. Tension. Something unspoken, electric, dangerous.
Mia shot her a glance—something unreadable, sharp, warning. But for the first time, Liana realized she didn’t need Mia’s approval.
She stood taller, brushing water from her dress. The other girls helped steady her, whispering encouragement, while Asher remained at the edge, his eyes never leaving hers.
The music started again, louder now. Liana swallowed, realizing something undeniable: Evercrest Academy wasn’t just about grades or wealth.
It was about power. And tonight, she had just glimpsed a fraction of it.

CHAPTER 7&8
The courtyard was buzzing louder than usual that Monday afternoon.
Liana Hart kept her tray close, eyes glued to the floor as Evan stormed past, laughing and flinging papers into the fountain. Students scattered, whispers chasing him like shadows. She felt a shiver she couldn’t explain.
Mia nudged her. “Don’t look now… but you’re being watched.”
Liana glanced up. And froze.
Across the courtyard, standing casually by the fountain, were two girls she hadn’t seen before. One with chestnut hair that glinted like polished wood, the other with sleek black curls that framed a sharp, confident face. Their eyes were on her. Not friendly. Not hostile.
Just… measuring.
The taller one stepped forward. “Hey… you’re the new scholarship girl, right?”
Liana nodded, clutching her tray. “Yes…”
“We’ve heard about you,” the other said, voice calm but firm. “Don’t trust everyone too quickly. Especially Mia.”
Liana blinked. “Mia?”
They shared a look. The one with chestnut hair smiled faintly, sharp and knowing. “Let’s just say… she has her favorites. And you’re not one of them.”
Before Liana could respond, movement caught her eye.
Asher Veyron.
Final year. Brooding, untouchable, walking past the fountain with Julian at his side. His eyes flicked up, catching hers for the briefest moment. Recognition passed like a spark — the memory of scattered papers, sharp words, a clash in the hallway.
Liana’s stomach tightened.
Julian glanced at her too, but his expression was lighter, teasing — the kind that made him approachable yet dangerous in charm.
The girls next to her nudged her. “See? That’s the top. Asher and Julian. Don’t get on their bad side.”
She forced a breath. “I… won’t.”
Mia, standing slightly behind, frowned for the briefest second, glancing toward Asher. Her lips pressed into a line. Something unreadable flickered there — amusement? irritation? protective instinct?
The courtyard felt smaller, hotter, louder. Every glance, every movement, weighed more than her lunch tray.
And as Liana turned to follow the two girls back toward the dorms, she couldn’t shake it:
Evercrest Academy was not a school.
It was a battlefield.
And she had just crossed the first line.
Liana Hart’s first full day in the dorm had started quiet, too quiet, but it didn’t stay that way.
Mia leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, one eyebrow raised like she already knew the room was hers to inspect. “So… you survived your first day without tripping over yourself?” she asked, voice smooth but sharp enough to sting.
Liana blinked. “I… think so.”
Mia stepped in, surveying her neatly arranged things, nodding slowly. “Not bad. For a scholarship girl.”
Liana’s smile faltered. “For a scholarship girl?”
Mia tilted her head, eyes glinting. “Don’t take it the wrong way. I just mean… it’s rare for someone like you to keep up here.”
Something in the tone made Liana uneasy. Not cruel exactly… but carefully measured. Calculated.
“Thanks, I guess,” Liana said softly, forcing herself to keep calm.
Mia sat on the edge of the bed, legs crossed.
“Look, I’ll be honest with you.” She leaned closer, lowering her voice. “Evercrest isn’t just about grades. Popularity. Influence. Who sits with whom. Who Asher notices. Who Julian notices.”
Liana stiffened. “Who Asher notices?”
Mia smiled — a flash of something sharp behind her eyes. “Don’t worry. You’ll figure it out. Just… be careful who you get close to.”
Her words were casual, but the air in the room tightened.
Liana nodded slowly. “I will.”
Mia’s smile widened, almost innocent. Almost. “Good. Because I don’t like… distractions. And Asher?” She let the name hang, light and careless. “Some people think they can just walk in.”
Liana’s stomach dropped. Walk in?
Mia stood suddenly. “Anyway, class starts soon. Don’t get lost. And remember…” She paused at the door, glancing back over her shoulder.
“Not everyone who smiles at you is your friend.”
The door clicked shut.
Liana exhaled, sinking onto her bed.
She had noticed Mia’s subtle attitude before, but now it was unmistakable. Beneath the helpful guidance, beneath the laughter and easy charm, there was a current of something else:
Territory
Jealousy
Possessiveness
She pushed it from her mind and reached for her notebook. She couldn’t let Mia intimidate her—not yet.
But she couldn’t stop thinking about one thing:
The girl who had seemed like a friend on the first day… might already be her first enemy.
And in Evercrest Academy, enemies were just as dangerous as rivals.

CHAPTER 5&6
The cafeteria at Evercrest Academy was louder than Liana expected.
Not messy loud.
Organized loud.
Laughter floated from one corner. Soft gossip from another. The clinking of cutlery, the hum of the espresso machine, the quiet hierarchy of who sat where.
Mia nudged her. “Okay, crash course. See that section near the windows? Old money.
Mansions, private drivers, summer in Europe.”
Liana followed her gaze. The students there looked effortless. Expensive watches. Perfect posture. The kind of confidence that came from never worrying about tomorrow.
“And over there?” Mia pointed to a smaller table near the back. “Scholarship students. Most keep to themselves.”
Liana swallowed. She suddenly understood something about Evercrest.
It wasn’t just a school.
It was a map of power.
They took seats somewhere in between. Not too visible. Not invisible.
Liana exhaled slowly, trying not to feel the invisible labels floating above everyone’s heads.
Then the doors burst open.
Heads turned.
“Drama at twelve o’clock,” Mia muttered.
A tall boy strode in, blazer hanging loose, confidence spilling from every step. His smile wasn’t warm. It was sharp.
“That’s Evan,” Mia whispered. “Principal’s son. Professional troublemaker.”
Evan stopped by a table of first-year boys and flicked one of their notebooks off the surface. It hit the floor.
“You’re sitting in my spot,” he said lazily.
“But—this isn’t assigned—” the boy started.
Evan smiled wider. Dangerous. “It is now.”
The room watched.
Some amused.
Some annoyed.
No one stepping in.
Liana’s fingers tightened around her tray. Does nobody say anything here?
Mia leaned closer. “Relax. Someone will handle him eventually.”
“Who?” Liana asked.
Mia smirked. “The only person Evan can’t stand.”
Liana didn’t need the name. She already knew.
Her eyes drifted toward the far side of the cafeteria—
Empty seat. Black blazer draped over the chair.
Reserved.
The air there felt… different.
Like a storm that hadn’t arrived yet.
Liana looked away quickly, heart beating faster for reasons she didn’t understand.
Evercrest had rules.
Lines.
Territories.
And she was starting to realize—
She had just stepped into a battlefield dressed like a school.
By the second day, Liana understood one thing about Evercrest Academy.
Nothing here was random.
Not where people sat.
Not who they spoke to.
Not even who they looked at.
Everything meant something.
She walked beside Mia through the hallway, books hugged to her chest. Conversations dipped slightly as they passed, then rose again like quiet waves.
“They’re observing you,” Mia said casually.
“Observing?” Liana echoed.
“New girl. Scholarship. Unknown background. You’re basically today’s topic.
”
Liana forced a small smile. Wonderful.
They stopped at her locker. As she struggled with the unfamiliar lock, laughter echoed down the corridor.
Evan.
Of course.
He walked past with two boys trailing him like background characters. His gaze swept lazily over the hallway — until it paused on Liana
Slowly.
Deliberately.
“Well, well,” he said. “You’re new.”
Liana stiffened but didn’t look away. “Yes.”
“Scholarship?” His tone wasn’t curious. It was measuring.
Mia stepped in smoothly. “She’s late for class.”
Evan’s lips curved slightly. “Careful. This school eats quiet girls alive.”
He walked off, laughing softly with his friends.
Liana released the breath she’d been holding.
“Is he always like that?”
“Worse,” Mia replied. “You just met the mild version.”
Classes blurred together. Teachers were polished, strict, efficient. Students answered like they’d been trained for it.
Liana wrote notes quickly, determined not to fall behind. If she couldn’t control the social game, she could control this
At lunch, whispers floated again.
“Evan’s looking for trouble.”
“He hates losing attention.”
“Someone said Asher ignored him yesterday.”
Liana kept her eyes on her food.
She didn’t want to care.
But she did.
Because every time that name came up, the memory of sharp eyes and scattered papers returned like an echo.
That evening, back in the dorm, the hallway buzzed louder than usual.
Liana stepped out of her room just in time to hear someone say—
“Evan challenged him.”
“After school. Courtyard.”
“Big mistake.”
A strange chill ran down her spine.
She didn’t know why.
She didn’t even know him.
But somehow…
It felt like the air before a storm.
And Evercrest Academy was holding its breath.

♠️CHAPTER 3&4♠️
Liana Hart adjusted the strap of her bag, feeling the weight of every step as she walked through the sprawling corridors of Evercrest Academy. Her heart raced—not from fear exactly, but from the dizzying enormity of it all.
“Lost?” a cheerful voice called.
She turned to see a stylish girl leaning against the edge of a marble fountain, hair flawless, sneakers sparkling. “Uh… a little,” Liana admitted.
“I’m Mia, from the lower social circle also on scholarship i mean” the girl said with a grin. “Looks like we’re starting our first day together. Come on, I’ll show you the ropes.”
Relief washed over Liana as she followed her new guide. Mia navigated the hallways like a pro, chatting easily. “Evercrest can be… complicated. Dorms, social circles, rules—you’ll figure it out. Top dorms go to the ultra-rich, middle-tier is moderate wealth, and scholarship students? Well… lowest socially. But don’t stress. You’ve got a decent room, better than most could dream of.”
Liana nodded, swallowing the nervous lump in her throat. “Thanks… I guess.”
“And then there’s the hierarchy,” Mia whispered conspiratorially as they entered the principal’s office. “Asher Veyron—king of this place. Cold, brilliant, untouchable. Julian Kane—flirt, playful, gets all the attention from girls. And the principal’s son? Constantly picking fights with Asher. It’s… messy, but entertaining.”
The principal’s office was a whirlwind of forms, schedules, and IDs, but with Mia guiding her, Liana emerged feeling a little lighter, more prepared.
Her dorm was a small haven—comfortable, modern, and cleaner than anything she’d known at home.
Students in the hallway barely glanced her way; whispers floated past, a reminder of her scholarship status. She unpacked slowly, listening to the soft hum of the building.
Curiosity tugged her toward the window. She peeked out, and there he was—Asher Veyron, striding through the courtyard, dark hair catching the sunlight.
He moved with effortless control, every step measured.
Their eyes met for the briefest moment. And in that instant, recognition flickered across his face—he remembered. The papers scattered in the hallway, the words exchanged, the spark of irritation in her eyes from their first encounter.
Liana’s stomach tightened. She quickly ducked behind the curtain, heart pounding. She hadn’t expected him to notice her again… and yet, the memory in his gaze said otherwise.
Evercrest Academy was alive, pulsing with rules, hierarchies, and unseen battles. Liana felt a shiver of anticipation—and dread. She had just stepped into a world far more complicated than she had imagined.
Morning came too fast.
Liana barely slept. The dorm ceiling felt too smooth, too white, too quiet compared to the noisy nights back home. She stared at it for a while before sitting up, reminding herself this was real.
Evercrest Academy.
Her new life.
Mia was already awake, scrolling through her phone
You’ll have to move faster,” Mia said, finally glancing up. “Evercrest doesn’t wait for anyone.”
Liana nodded, slipping on her shoes. The words sounded casual, but something in the tone felt like a warning wrapped in advice.
The hallway outside buzzed with voices, laughter, perfume, confidence. Girls walked in small groups like they had been born knowing exactly where to go.
Liana followed Mia closely.
The campus in the morning looked different — brighter, sharper. Students gathered near the courtyard fountain, some leaning against expensive cars parked too casually for comfort.
“That’s the top circle,” Mia said quietly, nodding toward a group near the marble steps. “Old money. Influencers. Legacy families.”
Liana tried not to stare.
But her eyes betrayed her.
Asher stood among them, hands in his pockets, expression distant like he was there but not really part of it. Julian laughed beside him, relaxed, easy, drawing people in without effort.
“They basically run the social system here,” Mia added. “Especially him.”
Liana looked away quickly, pretending she hadn’t noticed.
“Don’t,” Mia said softly.
“Don’t what?”
“Look too long. People notice things like that.”
Her stomach tightened.
Inside class, Liana kept her head down, writing carefully, listening more than speaking. Every answer she gave felt like it had weight. Like people were measuring her.
Halfway through, the door opened.
Evan walked in late again.
No apology. No fear. Just that careless grin like rules were optional for him.
He dropped into his seat, kicking a chair on the way. A girl gasped. He didn’t even look back.
Mia leaned toward Liana. “Principal’s son. Thinks the school is his playground.”
Liana believed it.
During lunch, Liana sat quietly, but she could feel eyes drifting toward her again. Not many. Just enough to remind her she was new.
Different.
Mia chatted easily with others, laughing, fitting perfectly. Sometimes she included Liana. Sometimes she didn’t.
It wasn’t mean.
But it wasn’t warm either.
Later, as they walked back to the dorm, Liana glanced once more toward the courtyard.
Asher stood alone this time, looking at his phone.
For half a second, he looked up.
Their eyes almost met.
Almost.
But Mia stepped in front of her view, still talking, still smiling.
And somehow, Liana felt like she had just missed something important… even though nothing had happened.
That night, lying in bed, she stared at the ceiling again.
Evercrest was beautiful.
But beauty here came with rules she didn’t know yet.
And mistakes?
Mistakes would not be forgiven.
