HLDP - HSE Leadership Development Program

Some leaders see safety as a cost. Others see it as culture.
Over the years—as a Site SHE Manager, Company SHEQ and Security Manager , Regional Safety Manager, and now a consultant—I’ve met both types.
I’ve worked with Managers who believed Occupational Safety Health and Environment (SHE) was just Safety boots, Safety Helmet and paperwork. No involvement. No ownership. Just another expense line. But I’ve also worked with many leaders, I call them "Leaders, who get it." With them, safety isn’t a KPI—it’s a value. You see it in their actions:
They put SHE on every agenda.
They take personal safety commitments.
They know their site’s major risks.
They lead by example.
These are the leaders shaping the future of work and sustainability. And they deserve the spotlight.
That’s why we’re launching our weekly “Leaders Who Gets It” feature alongside our Safety Leadership Excellence Workshops—to recognize those who show that good safety is good business.

We recently moved our MTC HSE Leadership Development mentorship and coaching Program (HLDP) online. In continuation of our virtual coaching , , the National SHE Manager at and his counterpart in , # BabatundeAdedokun, both highly regarded HSE (Health Safety & Environment) professionals at the center of managing the pandemic , were with us.
In the midst of the pandemic, their organisations have been extremely proactive. One of them even diversified into an hygiene business. We wanted to learn from the leadership moments the crisis afforded these HSE professionals. The topic was “The challenges and opportunities for the HSE professional during the Covid 19 and post Covid era”.
One key take away for my team and I was the importance of Leadership skills. While these professionals, became the resource center for their organisations in the on-going crisis, they had to fully engage at all levels. They re-enforced my belief that Leadership is not a position. Leadership is a role. My Son, step up. These are leadership moments!
