RECORD LABEL OR INDEPENDENT ARTIST... WHICH IS THE BETTER PATH?
A few years ago, every upcoming artist dreamed of getting signed.
Today, one TikTok video can make a complete unknown go viral overnight.
So, do record labels still matter? The answer might surprise you.
While independent artists enjoy freedom and ownership, record labels still provide something many musicians struggle to build alone:
✅ Industry connections
✅ Brand endorsements
✅ Major show bookings
✅ International collaborations
✅ Marketing power
✅ Long-term career development
The truth is, going viral and building a lasting career are not the same thing. Many songs trend for weeks. Very few artists remain relevant for years.
So if you were an upcoming artist today... Would you stay independent or sign a record deal?
Tell us why in the comments.

“Genevieve Nnaji Returns To The Screen In BBC Drama Wahala”
Some celebrities fade when they leave the spotlight.
Genevieve Nnaji became more powerful in silence.
While Nollywood evolved through streaming wars, TikTok fame, controversy culture, and constant online visibility, Genevieve slowly became something rarer, a mystery Nigerians never stopped talking about.
No noise.
No constant interviews.
No desperate reinvention.
Yet somehow, her absence only made her legacy feel bigger.
Now, with her return to screens through the BBC drama series Wahala, many Nigerians are not just reacting to a comeback.
They are reacting to an era.

Everybody posts “RIP” when a celebrity dies.
But almost nobody talks about what entertainers silently go through while alive.
Behind the fame, luxury photos, movie premieres, and red carpet smiles, many actors battle emotional isolation, depression, financial pressure, health problems, and the fear of becoming irrelevant.
We saw conversations after Ada Ameh.
We saw outrage after Junior Pope.
Now again, Nigerians are asking difficult questions after Alexx Ekubo.
Does Nollywood truly protect its own?
Where are the proper health insurance systems for actors?
Where is the mental health support?
Where are the emergency funds for entertainers facing silent struggles?
What happens to actors after fame fades?
Sometimes, the loudest smiles on our screens are hiding the deepest exhaustion behind closed doors.
Maybe the real tribute to our entertainers should not stop at candle emojis and RIP posts.
Maybe it should finally become action.
Do you think Nollywood is doing enough to protect its stars beyond the cameras?

Before AMVCA 2026, social media already behaved like Behind The Scenes had won everything.
Timelines were flooded.
Clips were everywhere.
People called it unbeatable.
Some even said nobody came close.
And to be fair, the movie gave people reasons to believe that.
Behind The Scenes broke records at the box office, dominated conversations online for weeks, pulled massive audience reactions, and once again proved Funke Akindele understands Nigerian cinema better than most people in the industry.
Then award night happened.
And suddenly the conversation changed.
So here’s the real question:
Did social media hype fail Funke Akindele and Behind The Scenes, or did AMVCA simply reward quieter performances over louder popularity?
Because if we’re being honest, online noise and award results clearly didn’t match this year.
What do you think actually happened?
