Our story began in 2021, a time when the world was slowly adjusting to life after lockdowns and social distancing was still very much a thing. Somehow, even when the world felt so far apart, we managed to find each other. We connected online, something neither of us really expected. I had just started my Master’s program and was convinced I wouldn’t have the time (or energy) to date. Ebuka believed differently. After a few weeks of talking, we finally decided to meet in person. Our shared culture, love for traveling, and passion for good music and good food quickly stitched our worlds together.

On our first date, we started with dinner and drinks simple, easy, just getting to know each other. But the night had other plans. One moment we were laughing over a meal, and the next we were swept into a salsa club, letting the music pull us in. We danced, we laughed, and somewhere between the spins and the steps, it felt like the start of something special.

I was proposed to in the Japanese Botanical Gardens, wrapped in the quiet beauty of autumn. Golden leaves drifted around them as Ebuka paused on a small bridge and took my hands. Then, with the soft fall breeze carrying his words, he sank to one knee. He told me that loving me had made every season brighter, and that choosing me was the easiest promise his heart had ever made. Among the falling leaves and still water, he asked me to be his forever. And with a breathless, joy-filled yes, I did. What I loved most about my wedding day was the palm wine ceremony. Hearing my dad speak about how proud he is of me touched my heart in a way I will never forget. And when it was time for me to search for my husband, everything felt so emotional and real. It was a moment full of love, tradition, and pure joy, one I will cherish.
