At Innovate Health Hub, we encourage innovators not just to build but to build responsibly.

For anyone working with AI in health, this free short course from King's Health Partners is a useful starting point: https://learninghub.kingshealthpartners.org/course/ethics-information-governance-for-ai

Why this course is important for innovators:

✅ Understanding data governance is essential when working with sensitive health data
✅ Ethical considerations shape trust, adoption, and long-term impact
✅ Responsible AI is increasingly expected by funders, regulators, and partners

This map of Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems across Africa shows that many countries are using platforms such as DHIS2, OpenMRS, and Bahmni.
Coverage is growing but the scale and integration are still developing. Here are a few reflections:

✅ Adoption does not mean integration:
Several countries run multiple systems at the same time. When these systems do not connect, data remains fragmented and its value for care and decision making is reduced.

✅ Clear opportunity for innovation:
There is strong potential for solutions that connect platforms, improve usability, and support frontline health workers with real time insights.

✅ Focus needs to shift to patient care:
Many systems are designed mainly for reporting. The next step is ensuring they improve clinical decisions and patient outcomes.

As digital health continues to grow across Africa, one question remains:

📍How do we move from adoption to real impact?
