Have you ever wondered how hotels began concierge services?

Concierge means "keeper of the candles" and originated from the French phrase "Comte Des Cierges".

In the 17th century, concierges were exclusive to castles, assisting visiting nobles.

In the 19th century, with the rise of leisure tourism and grand hotels in Europe, modern hotel concierges emerged as versatile assistants, aiding travellers with their various needs.

In 1929, Pierre Quentin, a concierge at the Hotel Ambassador in Paris, organized a meeting leading to the formation of a professional society, the Union Professionnelle des Concierges des Grands Hôtels.

This union facilitated resource and knowledge sharing among concierges, solidifying their essential role in hotels today.
