Nigeria Police Launch Green Fleet Transition with New CNG Buses

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken a major step toward modern policing with the introduction of eco-friendly operational vehicles, marking the beginning of its transition to green energy.

On April 21, 2026, the NPF received three specialized buses from the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV). The development signals a broader plan to modernize the Force’s fleet while improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact.

Police authorities revealed that beyond the initial donation, there are plans to convert existing operational vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a move expected to significantly cut fuel costs and support sustainability efforts.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed appreciation to the supporting agencies, describing the initiative as a strategic shift that aligns the Force with global best practices in logistics, innovation, and resource management.

He added that the newly acquired buses will enhance personnel mobility and welfare, while future plans include setting up internal conversion centres to ensure long-term maintenance and technological advancement.

The initiative highlights a growing commitment to equipping the Nigeria Police Force with modern, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly solutions to improve service delivery nationwide.
