Narrative Essay – "My Last Birthday"

​1. What is a Narrative Essay?

​A narrative essay is simply a story told from a specific point of view—usually yours! Unlike a report, it focuses on experience and emotion. It has a clear beginning, middle, and end.

​2. The Elements of Storytelling
​To make your birthday story come alive, you need these four "ingredients":
​Setting: Where and when did the birthday take place?
​Characters: Who was there with you?
​Plot: The sequence of events (what happened first, next, and last).
​Conflict/Climax: A "spark" or a main highlight (e.g., a surprise gift or a funny mishap).

​3. The Five-Paragraph Outline
​Use this structure to organize your thoughts before you write

Paragraph Section Goal

Paragraph 1 - Introduction Set the scene.

Mention the date, your new age, and how you felt waking up.
Paragraph 2
Morning Activities Describe the preparation. Was there a special breakfast? Who was the first to wish you?

Paragraph 3
The Main Event This is the "heart" of the story. Describe the party, the cake, or the big outing.

Paragraph 4
The Highlight Focus on one specific moment, like opening a special gift or a surprise guest.

Paragraph 5 Conclusion Reflect on the day.
