PITCH COMMUNICATIONS 5.0: A MELTING POT OF PROBING QUESTIONS, BANKABLE SUGGESTIONS, LIVING EXPERIENCES, AND ACTIONABLE PLANS

The fifth edition of the Pitch Communications Annual Public Lecture and Awards of Excellence, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, on December 10, 2025, has culminated, leaving an enduring impact on attendees. The event's theme, "Building the Future Together," with a focus on "Transforming Nigeria: The Impact of Formal and Informal Sectors on National Development," set the stage for a captivating and thought-provoking session.

In his welcome address, Mr. Idris Oseni, CEO of Pitch Communications, conveyed his sincere appreciation to all attendees, including Hon. Rasak Ajala, Hon. Akin Bashiru, and Alhaji Musbau Razak, esteemed supporters of the Pitch annual lecture and award. He also acknowledged the diligent efforts of the team that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the event's success. Coincidentally, the event marked Mr. Oseni's birthday, adding a personal touch to the occasion. With his signature wit, he quipped, "Wan ti da line ru" (the queue has been scattered), and playfully hinted that the next edition might be held in Canada, leaving attendees eagerly anticipating the next installment.

Hon. Rasak Ajala, former Chairman of Odi-Olowo LCDA, initiated the event with an inspiring message, delivered ahead of schedule due to his prior commitments. Departing from his prepared text, he spoke candidly, sharing his life experiences and emphasizing the significance of the informal sector in driving economic growth. His fervent plea underscored the adaptability and resilience of Nigerians, who can transform challenges into opportunities with the right support and encouragement.

The highly anticipated keynote address was delivered by Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, who presented a incisive analysis of the topic. He highlighted the importance of data in policy formulation and ex*****on, stressing the need for continuous encouragement of more people to join the informal sector, with a view to scaling them into the formal sector in due course. Hon. Vinod Obasa also expounded on the symbiotic relationship between the progress and development of both sectors and the ability of government to generate revenue, emphasizing that government responsibility to these sectors must be evidenced by empirical and distinctive project delivery.

The audience was treated to a masterful rendition of the spoken word by Oluwatomisin Akinyemi Tomi, who presented her poignant poem, "From Pain to Purpose." Her powerful delivery inspired attendees to transform their pains into purpose, reminding them that one person's pain might be the purpose of a nation.

A distinguished panel of experts, including Hon. Vinod Obasa, Mr. Salami Akeem (CEO of Balkeem Nigeria Ltd), Aisha Jumah (Strategy and Business Analyst at Noemdek Ltd), AbdulRahman Olakunle Ali (Serial Entrepreneur, Author, and Public Speaker), and Hon. Abdullah Binuyo (former Chief of Staff to Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, former Governor of Osun State), engaged the audience with thoughtful and thorough responses to questions covering various aspects of the formal and informal sectors, including challenges, impacts, technology adoption, funding, and taxation.

The event also recognized outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities through their actions and advocacy. The awardees, Hon. Busola Afolabi, Hameedat Shade Balogun, and Queen Moyosoreoluwa Okeyemi, were celebrated for their tireless efforts in driving positive change.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Akin Bashiru commended Hon. Vinod Obasa for his inspiring leadership and stressed the importance of having competent people at the helm of affairs. He emphasized that the event must transcend a mere talk show, instead serving as a catalyst for trackable adoption of suggestions and plans, measurable actions, follow-ups, and feedback, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility.

The Pitch Communications 5.0 event concluded with a symbolic gesture, as Mr. Udoh Joseph Bassey, an artist from the University of Lagos, gifted the Chairman of Agege LGA, Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa, an exquisite artwork crafted from plastic and iron wastes. The event was expertly moderated by the dynamic duo of Hon. Remi Bello and Amina Binitie, who ensured a seamless and engaging experience for all attendees.
