Adiresimplified
Have you ever asked how adire designs are made?
Most Adire fabrics are made using resist dyeing, a process that prevents some parts of the cloth from absorbing dye — and that’s how we get those beautiful patterns you love!
There are 3 major resist methods you’ll always see in Adire:
1️⃣ Tie & Dye (Adire Oniko / Alabere) – Fabric is tied or stitched to create circles, lines, and unique shapes.
2️⃣ Batik (Adire Alabela) – Hot wax is applied to draw patterns before dyeing.
3️⃣ Starch Resist ( Adire Eleko ) – Cassava paste is used to block areas from taking colour.
Each method gives a different feel, texture, and level of detail.
So next time you admire an Adire piece, remember — it’s not just colour; it’s art, technique, and patience.
