How you treat yourself teaches others how to treat you*
People pick up on it fast. If you tolerate being talked over, rushed, or disrespected “just to keep the peace,” you’re telling everyone it’s okay to do it again.
When you act like your time and energy matter, most people adjust. The ones who don’t were never meant to stay
When you let people talk over you, rush you, or cross small lines “to avoid drama,” you’re training them on what you’ll accept next time. And the wild part? Most people aren’t trying to disrespect you on purpose. They’re just responding to the boundary you set with your actions.
When you speak once and don’t repeat yourself 3 times, people listen.
When you end a call at the time you said, they stop assuming you’re always available.
When you leave a conversation that’s disrespectful, they learn you’re not a place to dump their mood.
The ones who adjust are keeping you around for the right reasons. The ones who leave were only there because it was easy.
You’re not being difficult by expecting respect. You’re being clear. And clarity is kinder than resentment you swallow for being weak.
