In April 2026, our team paid monitoring visits to several PHC facilities across Akwa Ibom state.

PHC Ibong Otoro in Abak LGA is in working condition still lacks sufficient staffing.

Currently, they have only two community health workers, no cleaners, and two health attendants, while serving six communities that rely on this facility for their health needs. The facility is not able to run 24/7 because of this.

Another notable gap is the lack of perimeter fencing. This is needed to improve security.

We implore the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, to address these needs to improve the quality of healthcare at this facility.

In Aug 2025, N755m was paid to RAYOZ DIGIT SERVICES LTD ABUJA for the Emergency Construction and Installation of Solar Street Light Amenities in Rural Areas of Ikot Akai, Nto Okpo, Inen & Nkari Communities, Akwa Ibom state.

We visited Nto Okpo, Essien Udim LGA, one of the beneficiaries of this project and report that this project has not been done.

According to the village head, the community has been in darkness for the past 15years. No electricity or solar streetlights.

He lamented how this has negatively impacted residents, stressing how much this provision is needed.

We implore Min of Agric & Food Security, the implementing agency to provide the public with details of how funds disbursed to this project was used.
