The best free websites for teaching English, all in one place.
ReadWorks, CommonLit and Newsela for reading. Hemingway Editor and Storybird for writing. British Council, Quizlet and BBC Bitesize for grammar and vocabulary. Flip and Vocaroo for speaking and listening.
Most of these work from a single teacher's phone. None of them cost a thing.

Grammar drills and vocabulary lists — the two things students dread most. Gamification keeps the learning serious while making it feel like play.
Try grammar snap, an error hunt or a grammar auction where students bid on sentences they believe are correct. For vocabulary, run a word detective challenge using context clues, a 30-second word sprint or a vocabulary Pictionary round.
All of it works with zero devices and a lot of student energy.

A full, ready-to-adapt lesson plan for teaching formal letter writing to JSS2.
Students write a letter of complaint based on a real-world mission card. Mark each other's work using a clear rubric. Vote on the strongest letter in a class tournament. Advanced students level up by writing and pitching an application letter.
Formal letters show up in every WAEC English paper. This game makes the format feel like home ground long before exam day.
