Perhaps one of the most critical tasks for safety professional is carrying out .

is key for this task and the acronyms PEME( People, Equipment, Material and Environment) can help a great deal when carrying out your hazard identification.

People: Who is carrying out the task? Do they have the competence to do the task?

Equipment: What equipment are required for the task? Is it the right equipment? Has it been inspected? Has it been maintained, serviced and/or calibrated?

Material: Does the task require the use of hazardous materials?

Environment: Is the environment slippery? Are lighting, temperature and ventilation adequate? Is the environment free of hazardous gases, fumes etc.?

Considering your PEME allows you to conduct an adequate hazard identification which sets the tone for your occupational health and safety management system.
