In a democracy, is it the people that elect their leaders into government or the government that elects leaders in power?

Which of the two does your practical experience in your locality reveals?

I am, maybe just soliloquizing I guess.

But by our theoretical learning, it's said that the people in a democratic system elect their leaders into government to administer their common wealth for the good of all.

I read in the social media that in some states, a month after the expiration of your vehicle's documents/particulars, the owner of such vehicle is fined 20k for delayed renewal of documents/particulars via a text message sent to him (and this is, especially for company's vehicles).

Could this be happening in an administration with a strong theme of a renewed hope? Not too sure if those in power are aware of this development.

But if it's truly happening, backed by policy or even law, could it be for the good and wellbeing of the people or just to increase the revenue purse of government?

Someone described this new trend as squeezing the already impoverished citizens of the remnant they have. Honestly, we can do better to abolish some of these laws so the people can see the light at the end of the tunnel for a renewed hope in the country.

Politicians see political parties as vehicles with which to attain their personal lofty goals while political parties use politicians as tools to achieve set objectives and relevance. With this understanding already established in the hearts of both the parties and their members from the beginning, how can one expect political parties in this part of the world to have a practicable ideology they are known for?

So you see another reason why governance is mostly garnished with corrupt tendencies.

This also is a root cause or determinant of corruption. Until we bring this discourse to the front burner and deal with it, the genuine fight against corruption will experience foundational set backs.
