In this video, RESONANCE laureate, Mobolaji Ogunrosoye, reflects on her ongoing project Contrasting Loveliness, where self-portraiture becomes a way of examining the contradictions that shape womanhood.

Working across collage and photography, the Lagos-based artist explores perception through distortion—manipulating paper, lenses, and layered imagery to reveal the many ways women are seen, and see themselves.

Through material experimentation, her practice embraces the unexpected - finding beauty in disruption, and meaning in the act of “making a mess”.

Filmed during the residency in Paris, organised by ART X Lagos, Cité internationale des arts () and the French Embassy in Nigeria (), Mobolaji also shares how the experience offered time for reflection, experimentation, and renewed clarity.
