Are you living in Lagos and worried about forced eviction and demolition?
Many residents do not fully understand government demolition procedures, their legal rights, or how to properly engage authorities before enforcement actions take place. Lack of information often leaves communities vulnerable and unprepared.
Thrivescape Initiative is bringing Demolition Sensitization and Rights Based Urban Planning Sessions directly to communities across Lagos.
This session will help you:
1. Understand government demolition procedures
2. Know your rights and available legal protections
3. Learn how to engage authorities lawfully and effectively
4. Join the movement promoting safe and inclusive urban development
Whether you are a community leader, youth group, market association, school, church, mosque, landlord association, or resident group, you can invite us to your location.
To request a session, send a mail to [email protected] stating your location and proposed training date and time.
Thrivescape Initiative works at the intersection of human rights, environmental design, and urban development to build safer and informed communities.

As we create wishlists for Santa and the new year, it is important to remember that having a house as a wishlist item or planned goal goes beyond the purchase of blocks and cement. It starts with planning.
Building a house is one of the biggest investments a person can make. The smartest approach is to prepare early by understanding the land conditions, securing proper documentation, and setting aside resources for professional design and supervision. These steps may not be visible at first, but they determine the safety, durability, and value of the building.
Rather than rushing into construction, focus on investing in the right foundations. This includes soil testing, engaging qualified professionals, and budgeting for quality materials. Proper planning helps prevent delays, reduces waste, and avoids costly corrections in the future.
As you plan your investments, think beyond completing a structure. Think about building a home that is safe, resilient, and able to serve generations. The best buildings are not those started in haste, but those planned with intention.

Each year disasters claim lives destroy property and roll back hard earned development gains. Most of these losses are not inevitable as they result from chronic underinvestment in resilience preparedness and safe infrastructure.
In Nigeria recurring cases of building collapses flooding and other urban emergencies continue to reveal the true cost of neglecting resilience. The reality is clear that when we fail to fund safety we end up funding tragedy.
The millions of naira spent on relief materials emergency response and post disaster rehabilitation as well as the manpower and resources used to clear collapsed buildings could be drastically reduced if we invested early in systems and infrastructure that prevent such events. Beyond the financial losses the human cost which includes lives lost and families displaced can never be recovered.
As we commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction we join the global call for a shift in priorities from reactive spending after disasters to proactive investments in prevention risk governance and safe construction practices.
Resilience must be funded not the aftermath of its absence.
