Rep. Umaru on the Bill for the establishment of Federal University of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The Federal University of Education in Akwanga will further develop the society and train human resources that will develop the State and the Nation.

I decided to use the Akwanga Local Government Area because it is a strategic area for the quest for education owing to the fact that there's already an existing College of Education.

This institution will churn out qualified persons who will be useful in the education sector, not only in Nasarawa State but the entire nation.

The proposed federal university of education if assented by the President will encourages the advancement of learning to all persons without distinction and will bring quality change in technical education by focusing on teacher education through teaching and learning innovations.

Hon. Jeremiah Umaru ACA,ACTI, Deputy Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts and Member Representing Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency

UK calls out Nigerian government over unpaid £8.4 million embassy ground rent since 2003

Transport for London (TfL) has issued a payment request to the Nigerian government, which is part of a group of persistent debtors, for its outstanding embassy congestion fees totaling £8.4 million, a sum that has accumulated over approximately two decades.

With a debt of £8,395,055, Nigeria is positioned fourth on the list of the UK’s 48 international debtors who have neglected their embassy dues since 2003.

Leading the list of debtors is the American embassy with a debt close to £15 million, followed by the embassies of Japan and India, owing £10 million and £8.5 million respectively.

“The majority of embassies in London do pay the charge, but there remains a stubborn minority who refuse to do so, despite our representations through diplomatic channels,” the UK government said.

TfL clarified that the embassy congestion charge was payment for service, not tax, which makes it applicable to diplomats.

The congestion charge, according to TfL, “is a charge for a service and not a tax,” adding that “diplomats are not exempted from paying it.”

The UK government said it was pushing to escalate the matter to the International Court of Justice to ensure offending nations get penalised should they refuse to pay.

“We will continue to pursue all unpaid Congestion Charge fees and related penalty charge notices and are pushing for the matter to be taken up at the International Court of Justice,” TfL stated.

The callout was reminiscent of Nigerian FCT minister Nyesom Wike’s appeal, who in February, asked the British High Commission and other foreign embassies to pay up their ground rent or risk revocation of licence.

According to Mr Wike, the British High Commission owed the Nigerian government $1,000.

Man Buys Cheap Fuel Priced at N150 Only, Fills His Car With N1900 at NIPCO Filling Station

A driver who has converted his car to run with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is now enjoying cheap fuel. The man no longer runs his car with premium motor spirit but has installed a cylinder for CNG. Recall that the federal government ordered all filling stations nationwide to begin selling CNG.

In a video, the man was seen at a NIPCO filling station where CNG sold at N150 per cubic meter.

The cylinder in his car was filled with 12.74 cubic meters of CNG, meaning he spent a little more than N1900 to fill it. The man noted that filling his car's tank with CNG fuel would cost him no more than N2000. In the video posted by , the process of filling the car with CNG fuel took only a few minutes, and the driver was happy.

There are indications that the CNG price per cubic meter has increased to N200 and above compared to when the video was shared months ago.
